Overview

Miniature Winter Veil Tree

Game iconMiniature Winter Veil Tree is a one-handed dagger styled as a miniature holiday fir. Instead of the usual blade, your character holds a decorated little tree with garlands, ornaments, and a star on top — one of the most recognizable "holiday" weapon models in the game.

The dagger is a novelty item: people pick it up not for its stats but for its appearance. The model is available for transmogrification and is used as a festive weapon by any class able to wield daggers. It is a rare holiday find with item level 207, prized first and foremost as a transmog look rather than as a combat weapon.

Thematically, the dagger is tied to Azeroth's winter holiday — the Winter Veil event. That makes it a seasonal find: you can only obtain the item during the few weeks of the year when the event is active.

Source

Miniature Winter Veil Tree is a festive reward from a seasonal event. It is not a guaranteed drop but a rare find from a gift container, so farming it stretches across several game days.

Event. The item is obtained only during Winter Veil — the winter holiday of World of Warcraft. The event runs every year roughly from mid-December to early January. Once the event ends, you can no longer obtain the item until the following year.

Daily quest. The source of the dagger is the Game iconStolen Present container. It is awarded for completing the daily quest You're a Mean One.... Story-wise, you need to track down stolen treats and free a reindeer named Metzen the Reindeer.

Where to look. The quest leads to the boss The Abominable Greench — an elite humanoid hiding in the Frozen Cave in Hillsbrad Foothills. The cave sits near the northern part of the zone:

/way #267 43.4 39.4 Frozen Cave — The Abominable Greench

During the event, free festive sleighs run from the Alliance and Horde capitals to the battle site — they drop the player off almost right at the cave, so there is no need to travel there manually.

How to get the dagger.

  • Activate Winter Veil — without the event the quest is unavailable.
  • Hop on the festive sleigh in your faction's capital or fly to Hillsbrad Foothills.
  • Defeat The Abominable Greench and free the reindeer. At max level the boss can be killed solo; for lower-level characters a group is more convenient.
  • Turn in the daily quest and collect the Stolen Present.
  • Open the container. The Miniature Winter Veil Tree is rare loot, so repeat the quest every day until the look drops.

Since the quest is daily, you will get roughly two to three dozen attempts over the whole event period. That is usually enough, but there is no guarantee on the first try.

Alternatives

The Miniature Winter Veil Tree has no color recolors — the model is unique, and there are no other color variants of the tree-dagger in the game. If you want a novelty dagger similar in spirit, look at items with an unusual, non-combat model:

Item Source
Game iconDark Herring Rare fish from the open waters
Game iconMiniature Winter Veil Tree Old epic version of the same look

The Dark Herring is a fish-shaped dagger, also a joke weapon; together with the little tree they look great in "lighthearted" holiday outfits. The old epic version shares the same fir model, differing only in stats and item quality.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It fits themed holiday outfits during Winter Veil — especially paired with a winter look made of red or green winter clothing.
  • It pairs well with white and silver armor: the fir model contrasts against a light background and reads as an accent.
  • It suits classes that wield daggers and often hold their weapon in an open stance — rogues and druids: the little tree is clearly visible out of combat.
  • It harmonizes with the green-and-red color scheme of cloth and leather sets — the dagger's garlands echo the festive palettes.
  • A debatable but expressive choice for combat plate sets: the miniature fir deliberately breaks the "serious" silhouette and turns the look into a costume.

Tips

1

Plan your farming ahead: the item is obtained strictly during Winter Veil, and outside the event the source is unavailable.

2

Complete the You're a Mean One... quest every day of the event — each turn-in grants a new Stolen Present and another shot at the dagger.

3

Use the festive sleigh from the capital: it saves travel time to the Frozen Cave and lets you fit in more attempts.

4

At max level The Abominable Greench is killed solo in a few seconds; grouping up only makes sense for lower-level characters.

5

Open the Stolen Present right after receiving it — besides the dagger it can contain pets, toys, and event consumables.

6

Start the quest on several characters of your account: each of them brings a separate Stolen Present and increases your total number of attempts per day.

7

If the event is not currently active, the item cannot be obtained — wait for the next Winter Veil in December.
