Bag of Kafa Beans

Overview

Game iconBag of Kafa Beans is an unusual mount item added back in the Mists of Pandaria expansion and still relevant in The War Within (patch 11.1, Season 2, 2026). It is not a permanent mount from your collection: when used, you feed your steed a handful of narcotic coffee beans and turn into a crazed mountain goat for 20 seconds, racing at around 300% speed - faster than almost any ground mount in the game.

The item binds on pickup, has three charges, and disappears after the third use. It drops with an almost 100% chance from the rare elite goat Zhing on Kun-Lai Summit in Pandaria.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique mechanic. Under the influence of the beans, the goat charges in auto-run mode: you cannot stop until the effect ends, but the speed is higher than a standard ground mount.
  • Collector value. The item has long been tied to the legendary kafa quest line in Kun-Lai and is considered one of the most fun "toy mounts" in the game.
  • Short cooldown. Only 3 seconds between uses - handy for quick dashes through old content.
  • No reputation or raid requirements. All you need is to fly to Pandaria and find a rare mob.
  • A great souvenir. Three charges mean three spectacular runs worth saving for scenic locations or screenshots.

Requirements and How to Get There

  • Character level: at least 10, but it is realistically more convenient to come in at level 80 in TWW so the elite goat poses no threat.
  • Travel: the open continent of Pandaria. The fastest way in is through a portal in Orgrimmar/Stormwind or a mage teleport.
  • Riding skill: not required to use the item - it turns you into a mount on its own.
  • Faction: a neutral mob, available to both the Alliance and the Horde.
  • Professions and reputation: not needed.
  • Addons: it is highly recommended to install a rare mob scanner (such as an analog of NPCScan or RareScanner) and subscribe to ID 66464.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Fly to Kun-Lai Summit. From the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, use a flying mount and head north toward the Shado-Pan Monastery.
  2. Open the map and place a marker at coordinates 39, 55. This is a wide mountain plateau northeast of Winter's Blossom, opposite the monastery.
  3. Find the herd of goats. Zhing patrols a small area together with an entourage of ordinary mountain goats. If he is not there, wait 10-30 minutes or make a loop between the nearby spawn points.
  4. Pull Zhing away from his entourage or kill off the helper goats. The ordinary goats will fight alongside Zhing and be annoying, especially if you approach in melee. At level 80 they break in a couple of hits.
  5. Kill Zhing. The rare elite has little health for a current-level character - the fight takes a few seconds.
  6. Loot the Game iconBag of Kafa Beans from the corpse. The item drops almost every time; if in a rare case it does not, wait for Zhing to respawn and repeat.
  7. Use the item in a suitable location. Remember: you cannot stop the goat, so use it in open spaces without cliffs or mobs.

Farming Optimization

  • Plan your routes in advance. 20 seconds of auto-running at 300% speed covers an enormous distance. Use a charge to cross large open zones (the Steppes of Tanalan, the Tanaris desert, Pandaria).
  • Don't waste charges in dungeons and raids. Walls and narrow corridors cut a beautiful run short instantly.
  • Combine it with speed buffs. Some buffs don't work on the replacement mount, but the effects of class movement abilities may keep working.
  • Take a screenshot or recording. The "Wheeeee!" effect and visual sparks make for great shots - especially in Pandaria and Karazhan.
  • Don't forget about alts. The item binds on pickup, so every character that wants it must kill Zhing personally.
  • If you are building a "toy" mount collection, drop by other rare mobs in Pandaria right after Zhing - many of them grant similar effects and items.

Tips

1

Don't use the beans in cities and PvP zones without preparation: you won't be able to brake and could easily fly into a crowd of enemies.

2

Before using it, turn off auto-targeting so you don't accidentally start a fight at the moment of transformation.

3

If Zhing doesn't appear, check another shard/layer via an invite group - this often solves the problem.

4

Keep at least one charge "for the memories": the item disappears after the last use and can only be restored by killing Zhing again on another character.

5

The item does not count as a mount in the collection window, so it doesn't count toward mount-quantity achievements - keep that in mind if you are chasing Lord of the Reins.

6

For a quick return to Zhing, use a hearthstone set to One Time Great City or a druid portal to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
