Reins of the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse
Reins of the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse
Overview
Reins of the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse is an epic ground mount available only to players of the Horde faction. It is a dark-armored skeletal horse with smoldering green flames in its eyes and hooves, a perfect match for the aesthetic of the Forsaken and the Horde as a whole. The mount was added in the Mists of Pandaria expansion and remains to this day one of the most coveted rated PvP rewards.
To obtain it, you do not need to farm a boss drop — instead, you buy the reins from the vendor Deathguard Netharian in Orgrimmar for a single
Vicious Saddle. The Vicious Saddle itself is awarded for active participation in the current season's rated PvP (in 2026 — TWW Season 2, patch 11.1).
Why You Want This Mount
- A unique Horde style. The skeletal horse with its green glow pairs perfectly with the theme of the Forsaken, warlocks, rogues, and death knights.
- A mark of PvP activity. Owning the mount shows that you have spent a significant amount of time in the arena or rated battlegrounds.
- An account-wide mount. Since patch 7.2.5 the mount has been available to all Horde characters on the account, making the farm a one-time effort.
- Rarity. The mount is owned by roughly 4% of player profiles, which makes you stand out flying around the capitals.
- Collector's value. It belongs to the line of "Vicious" PvP mounts that are awarded only for rated victories and cannot be bought with gold.
Requirements and How to Get There
- Faction: Horde only. The Alliance equivalent is sold by a separate vendor with its own models.
- Character level: 80 (the current cap in TWW, patch 11.1).
- Riding skill: Expert Riding (minimum).
- PvP rating: at least 1000 (Combatant rank) in 2v2, 3v3 arena, or rated battlegrounds of the current season.
- Progress condition: the Vicious Saddle is awarded after you have already obtained the current seasonal Horde mount and filled the progress bar a second time.
- Purchase currency: 1
Vicious Saddle.

Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1. Earn the seasonal Horde mount
Before the progress bar starts handing out Vicious Saddles, you must fill it once for the current seasonal mount of TWW Season 2. To fill the bar (2400 points) you need at least 1000 rating and to win matches:
- 2v2: 10 points per win, for a total of 240 wins;
- 3v3: 30 points per win, for a total of 80 wins;
- RBG: 60 points per win, for a total of 40 wins.
Step 2. Fill the bar again for a Vicious Saddle
After you receive the seasonal mount, the bar resets and starts accumulating points anew. This time, at the end, you will be awarded a
Vicious Saddle. The number of wins needed to fill it is the same.
Step 3. Alternative — the "Veteran of the Horde" achievements
By winning rated battlegrounds you can also earn Vicious Saddles through the "Veteran of the Horde" achievement chain:
- Veteran of the Horde: 75 RBG wins — 1 Vicious Saddle;
- Veteran of the Horde II: 150 RBG wins — 1 Vicious Saddle;
- Warbringer of the Horde: 300 RBG wins — 1 Vicious Saddle.
Achievement progress stacks with the seasonal bar, so a single RBG run advances two sources of progress at once.
Step 4. Fly to Orgrimmar
Once the Vicious Saddle is in your bags, head to Orgrimmar, to the Valley of Strength. Enter through the main gate — Netharian stands among the other PvP vendors by the wall with the Forsaken banners, at coordinates 41.8 / 73.0.
Step 5. Buy the reins
In Deathguard Netharian's dialogue, select
Reins of the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse. The cost is 1 Vicious Saddle. Use the reins from your bag — the mount will be added to the collection account-wide for all Horde characters.
Farming Optimization
- RBGs are the fastest path. 40 battleground wins versus 240 in 2v2 — the difference is enormous. On top of that come the "Veteran of the Horde" achievements, which grant extra saddles.
- Assemble a group in advance. Solo queue in RBGs is possible through Blitz mode, but classic five-player RBGs rack up wins faster thanks to coordinated comps.
- Pick 3v3 if the arena is more your style. 80 wins in 3v3 is a reasonable balance between speed and the difficulty of finding partners.
- Play at the start of the season. The earlier you start, the better your chances of earning several saddles in a season: after the current seasonal mount you will manage to fill the bar another 1–2 times.
- Keep your rating above 1000. If your rating drops below it, points stop counting toward the bar. Don't chase high results — a steady Combatant level is enough.
- Mind the one-win-per-match cap. Points are awarded only for a win; losses give nothing. Play in a proven comp.
Tips
1
Check the bar's progress in the PvP interface (the H key) — the "Rewards" tab shows your current points and the next reward.
2
The Vicious Saddle is an account-bound item. It can be mailed to any level 80 Horde character.
3
If you switch from Alliance to Horde, your accumulated seasonal progress is retained — the bar is account-wide.
4
Don't forget to review the vendor's list of available mounts: for a single Vicious Saddle you can take any mount in the series, so prioritize one you don't already have in your collection.
5
If you already own the skeletal horse, consider other models from the same series — such as a kodo or a wolf — to round out your collection.
6
Keep in mind: a new seasonal model is added each PvP season. The older "Vicious" mounts remain available, but the lineup keeps expanding.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
