Creeping Carpet

Creeping Carpet is a crafted ground mount added to World of Warcraft with the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Even though carpets usually fly in the lore, this one has a unique quirk: it cannot take to the air, but it can crawl across the ground very quickly. The mount looks like a rolled-up woven rug decorated with Draenei ornamental patterns and fits perfectly into collections themed around mages and tailors.

In the current patch 11.1 (Season 2 of The War Within) the mount is still fully available: all of Draenor's infrastructure — the garrison and the vendors in Ashran, Stormshield and Lunarfall — works as usual. The Creeping Carpet is bind-on-pickup, but once crafted it can be used by any character on the account that has learned any tailoring profession at level 1 or higher.

The Creeping Carpet is one of the most unusual ground mounts in the game. It is rarely seen on other players, because crafting it requires you to deliberately level Draenor Tailoring and produce consumables every day. That makes the carpet a solid "profession veteran" marker: it is immediately clear that the owner did not shy away from old content.

The carpet is also convenient because it is bought with in-game resources, with no raids, dungeons or random luck involved. You know for sure that you will get it after a set number of days, and you can plan your farming calmly. Finally, the mount counts toward your collection and brings you closer to the achievements for the number of mounts owned.

To craft the Creeping Carpet you will need:

• A character level 27 or higher (in 2026 this is an irrelevant restriction, since the minimum level for Draenor has long been below the current cap of 80).
• The learned Apprentice Riding skill.
• The Tailoring profession with the Draenor Tailoring branch unlocked (level 1). You can pick up the branch from the tailoring trainer in the Tailoring Emporium of your garrison, or from the pattern vendor in Ashran.
• A built and preferably level 3 Tailoring Emporium in your Draenor garrison. The third tier of the building, with an assigned follower, doubles the Hexweave Cloth output from work orders.
• A little gold and time: the pattern costs 5 Secret of Draenor Tailoring, while the Secrets themselves and the Hexweave Cloth have a daily cooldown.

If your main profession is not tailoring, you can still ride a finished carpet, but you will have to craft it either on a tailor alt or ask a tailor friend who has Draenor unlocked.

Step 1. Unlock Draenor Tailoring. Head to your garrison in Draenor and build the Tailoring Emporium if it is not built yet. Inside the building, find the tailoring trainer and learn the Draenor Tailoring branch. If you do not have a garrison, complete the starting quest chain at the Dark Portal — it takes about an hour.

Step 2. Create a Secret of Draenor Tailoring every day. This item has a daily cooldown, so plan your farm for at least 5 days. One Secret requires bolts of Hexweave Cloth that come from the daily work order in the Emporium. If you have a follower with the tailoring profession, assign them to the building — it speeds up resource gathering.

Step 3. Accumulate 5 Secrets and buy the pattern. Head to one of the vendors: Christopher Macdonald in Lunarfall (Alliance), Steven Cochrane in Stormshield (Alliance, in Ashran), Petir Starocean in Warspear (Horde, in Ashran) or Warra the Weaver in Frostwall (Horde). Buy Pattern: Creeping Carpet and learn it.

Step 4. Gather 100 Hexweave Cloth. Each work order in the Tailoring Emporium turns 5 Sumptuous Fur into 1 Hexweave Cloth over 4 hours. You can queue up to 6 orders a day, yielding 6–12 Hexweave Cloth. The player can also craft a batch of Hexweave Cloth by hand once per day. With active daily play, 100 units come together in 10–15 days.

Step 5. Collect 20 Sorcerous Air. You can get it from air elementals in Nagrand and Frostfire Ridge, from work orders in the Enchanter's Study, or buy it on the auction house. Usually 20 of them is cheap and can be wrapped up in a single evening of farming.

Step 6. Craft the mount. Walk up to the tailoring station in your garrison Emporium and pick "Creeping Carpet" from the recipe list. Use the learned pattern on 100 Hexweave Cloth and 20 Sorcerous Air — the result is the mount item itself. Use it from your inventory to add it to your collection.

The main bottleneck is the daily cooldowns on Hexweave Cloth and the Secret of Draenor Tailoring. To shorten the time to get the carpet, start work orders right after collecting the previous ones: the 4 hours between iterations let you run up to 6 cycles per day. Assign a level 100 follower to the Emporium — they double the cloth output.

If you have several characters with Draenor unlocked and an Emporium building, parallelize production: on each alt you can run separate orders and craft Hexweave Cloth and Secrets. Sumptuous Fur is farmed quickly by any leatherworker pet from the Barn garrison building, or bought on the auction house — usually cheaply.

Before heading out for the pattern, always check how many Secrets you already have in your bags. Players often craft 5 and forget to buy the pattern, losing a day. If you plan to craft several items at once (for example, the carpet and a set of Hexweave Bags), estimate in advance how many Secrets you will need and stock up with a buffer.
