Overview

Gorestrider Gronnling

Game iconGorestrider Gronnling is a ground mount from the Warlords of Draenor era, awarded for completing the Glory of the Draenor Raider meta-achievement. It is a young gronn calf tamed by the Bloodmaul clan, with a distinctive red-brown hide and massive spiked shoulder armor. The mount is account-bound and available to all characters once obtained.

In 2026, with the current level cap of 80 and patch 11.1 (The War Within, Season 2), the entire achievement line scales to any character level, and the raids themselves can be cleared solo in just one or two runs. This makes the mount one of the most accessible "status" rewards from old content.

Why you want this mount

  • Collection value: the gronn looks unique and stands out noticeably against ordinary mounts.
  • Plus one toward your mount count for the Lord of the Reins achievement and higher.
  • Along the way you will close out dozens of Draenor raid achievements, granting several more titles and achievement points.
  • The mount is still rarely seen in the open world: most players skip old raids entirely.
  • The process is quick: soloing the whole route at level 80 takes roughly two to three hours.

Requirements and how to get there

To earn the mount you need to complete seventeen additional achievements across two Warlords of Draenor raids. It can all be done solo, and any difficulty starting from Normal will do.

  • A level 80 character (any class and specialization can handle it solo).
  • Riding skill: Apprentice (already unlocked for everyone by default).
  • Raid difficulty: Normal or higher. Looking For Raid (LFR) does not count these achievements.
  • Access to the Draenor portals from your garrison or via the Broken Isles/Oribos.

How to reach the raids

  1. Open the Draenor map through a portal from your capital city or your garrison.
  2. Highmaul is located in Nagrand, in the western part of the zone.
  3. Blackrock Foundry is located in Gorgrond, near the Iron Gates.
  4. Before entering, be sure to set the difficulty to "Normal" or higher in the dungeon settings menu.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1. Preparation

  • Make sure the raid difficulty is set to "Normal" or higher. Achievements do not count in "Looking For Raid" mode.
  • Bring along all consumables for speed: movement elixirs and a garrison hearthstone won't hurt.
  • Each raid can be reset as many times as you like by right-clicking your portrait in the group menu.

Step 2. Highmaul (7 achievements)

  • Flame On! — at Kargath Bladefist, don't destroy the fire pillars, just finish off the boss.
  • Hurry Up, Maggot! — at The Butcher, let him kill six Maggots before he dies. At level 80 the boss falls very fast, so hold back your cooldowns ahead of time.
  • A Fungus Among Us — at Brackenspore, build up 15 stacks of "Fire in the Blood" while standing in the mushroom pools.
  • More Like Wrecked-us — at Tectus, destroy all eight Motes within 10 seconds. At level 80 just spread them out with AoE attacks.
  • Brothers in Arms — at the Twin Ogron, keep their "Aggression" stat below 30% for the whole fight.
  • Pair Annihilation — at Ko'ragh, don't let more than 15 "Expel Magic" orbs touch the ground or an unshielded player.
  • Lineage of Power — at Imperator Mar'gok, empower a Reinforced Gorian Warmage before he dies.

Step 3. Blackrock Foundry (10 achievements)

Step 4. Claiming the reward

As soon as the last of the 17 achievements is credited, a letter from Khadgar with the Game iconGorestrider Gronnling will arrive automatically in your mailbox. Add it to your mount collection by right-clicking.

Farm optimization

  • Enter the raids on any class with good AoE: a demon hunter, brewmaster monk, shadow priest, or warlock will clear it in minutes.
  • Raids are reset through the group menu: if you fail an achievement, it's faster to reset and start over than to wait for the weekly reset.
  • Some achievements require you to "prevent" something from happening — here it's better to intentionally lower your damage or not bring strong allies.
  • If you also want the two dark twin mounts from Gorgrond (Sunhide and Gorestrider), combine the run with farming the trash.
  • The achievements on Tectus and the Iron Maidens go more cleanly if you briefly pause your attack and bring the targets down in sync.

Tips

1

Before each boss, reread the achievement condition in the journal — some objectives ("don't destroy", "don't allow") are the opposite of standard tactics.

2

If you accidentally break a condition during the fight, leave combat and wait for a reset or re-enter the raid.

3

The gronn counts as a ground mount, but thanks to the "Dynamic Flight" patch, activities on it in the open world remain comfortable.

4

In a group of two, most of the meta closes out even faster: one person pulls the bosses while the other performs the required mechanics.

5

Don't forget that "Glory of the Draenor Raider" also unlocks progress toward the general mount collector achievements — those are extra rewards.
