Sapphire Riverbeast: Mount Farming Guide

Overview

Sapphire Riverbeast is a ground mount added in World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.3). It is a large amphibious creature with deep blue skin whose coloring resembles the shallows of Draenor's rivers. The mount drops with a 100% chance from the rare NPC Silthide in Talador and is one of the easiest rewards to farm among Draenor's rare mounts.

On the current patch 11.1 (The War Within, Season 2) the mount is still available, solo farming takes only a few minutes, and the main challenge remains the long respawn timer of the rare NPC.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed drop. The drop chance is 100% for every player who damages Silthide, so failure is impossible.
  • Unique model. The riverbeast is a rare mount type with only a handful of color variants in the collection; the sapphire one is among the most striking.
  • Achievement credit. The mount counts toward total-mount achievements, including Mount Obsession and the "Tread Lightly" series.
  • Easy farm for alts. The entire line of Draenor rare mounts is perfect for regular runs across multiple characters.
  • Collection value. It belongs to the "six riverbeasts of Draenor" set alongside the amber, blue-black, green, gray, and pale-yellow variants.

Requirements and How to Get There

  • Character level: from 17 (after the scaling in patch 9.0.1). At level 80 the fight takes 10–20 seconds.
  • Riding skill: Apprentice Riding.
  • Faction: any — the mount is available to both the Alliance and the Horde.
  • Access to Talador. The zone opens up as you progress the Draenor storyline through your Garrison. If you have not yet been to Draenor, start the "Chronicles: Warlords of Draenor" quest line through Chromie in Stormwind/Orgrimmar.
  • Fastest way to get there:
    1. Open the Draenor map and pick a portal/flight point in Talador.
    2. From your Garrison, use the hearthstone or the flight table.
    3. If you have learned Draenor flying (the Draenor Pathfinder achievement), fly directly between the spawn points.

Silthide Spawn Points

Silthide appears at one of five points in Talador:

  • 54.8, 81.2 — the southern lake, closer to the Vale of Shattrath.
  • 61.8, 32.4 — the northern riverbank near the road to the Lapping Shore.
  • 61.8, 45.4 — the central river channel.
  • 67.8, 59.4 — the eastern channel, next to the Temple of Telhamat.
  • 79.6, 54.8 — the eastern edge of the zone by the marshes.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Check the timer. Open the RareScanner or HandyNotes: Draenor Treasures addon. They show whether Silthide was killed recently on your realm.
  2. Travel to Talador. Use the portal from Stormwind/Orgrimmar, your Garrison hearthstone, or the flight table.
  3. Visit the 5 points in a convenient order. The optimal route is: 61.8, 32.4 → 61.8, 45.4 → 67.8, 59.4 → 79.6, 54.8 → 54.8, 81.2.
  4. Check the water. Silthide swims in the water and is sometimes partly submerged — be sure to circle over the river and the lake.
  5. Attack the rare NPC. A single hit is enough to earn loot rights. At level 80 the mob dies in mere seconds.
  6. Pick up the mount from your bag. Use Sapphire Riverbeast — the item automatically adds the mount to your collection.
  7. If you are out of luck — wait 12–28 hours and try again, or hop to another realm via group finder (see below).

Farming Optimization

  • Group finder. In-game, open "Premade Groups" → "Custom" → search for "Silthide". Players often form raids for cross-realm runs of Draenor rares.
  • Collect all six riverbeasts in one run. Draenor has five more rare NPCs that grant similar mounts: Goregek the Ripper (Tanaan Jungle/Gorgrond), Knok-Knok, Gomagil, Poro, and others — combine your routes.
  • Use the Garrison scroll. Through your Garrison's ranger overseer you can quickly travel to some of Draenor's rares.
  • Hint addons. RareScanner and HandyNotes: WoD Rares will mark the points on the map and alert you when Silthide appears within scanning range.
  • Farm on several characters. Since the mount is credited to the whole group via tagging, a single raid is often enough for your needed alts to get the mount (each will have their own in-game loot).
  • Best time to look. Silthide spawns more often after the nightly server restarts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays — in the morning in your time zone you have a better chance of finding it alive.

Tips

1

Check all five points every time. Silthide picks a random one, and skipping even one could cost you a day of waiting.

2

Hop into connected realms. Groups formed through "Communities Finder" often switch between realms — one evening of runs can close several rares at once.

3

Hit a timeout? If you saw Silthide's body (a corpse on the ground), note the time: the next attempt is at least 12 hours away.

4

The mount is a ground mount. Flying in Draenor requires a separate flying mount, so plan your route accordingly.

5

Bring friends to the party. Mass-tagging the mob does not lower the chance — everyone who managed to land a hit gets the mount.

6

Save the coordinates. Add the points to your map markers or to the TomTom addon with the command /way Talador 61.8 32.4 Silthide 1 — it makes the run easier.

7

Don't forget the treasures. Talador is full of chests and rare items along the way — you can knock out the "Explore Talador" achievement at the same time. Happy farming, and may Silthide show up at the very first point!
