Trained Snarler
Overview

Trained Snarler is a ground mount in the form of a brown wolf, added in patch 6.0.3. Its movement speed depends on your riding skill: +60% with Apprentice Riding and up to +100% at higher tiers. The mount is account-bound: once learned, it becomes available to all eligible characters, even if you demolish your Stables. The source is always the same — the chain of training quests at the Stables of your Draenor Garrison, whose final quest is Wolf Training: The Garn.
Why Get It
The Snarler is one of the six "trainable" Stables mounts required for the Master of Mounts achievement. The achievement itself unlocks the level 3 Stables blueprint and two armored versions of the mounts (for completing the optional conditions tied to The Black Claw and the Garn-Tooth Necklace). On top of that, the wolf is one of the most stylish models in the Draenor collection: a great alternative to the standard Horde wolves and a rare ground mount for Alliance characters.
Requirements
To start the chain you will need: a character level 10 or higher (but realistically level 80 for comfortable Draenor questing in 2026); a built Garrison in Draenor (Shadowmoon Valley for the Horde, Frostfire Ridge for the Alliance); a level 1 or higher Stables as a large Garrison building; the Apprentice Riding skill; and about 12 in-game days to fully complete all Stables mounts (for the Snarler alone — roughly 7 days after the capture).
How to Obtain
The mount is granted as a reward for the final quest in the training chain. Below are the key parameters of the source.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Source type | Quest reward |
| Final quest | Wolf Training: The Garn |
| Quest giver | Sage Paluna (Garrison Stables) |
| Quest objective | Defeat Maimclaw while riding your Snarler-In-Training |
| Finale location | Nagrand, coordinates ~63, 80 |
| Building | Garrison Stables, level 1+ |
| Factions | Alliance and Horde |
| Cost | Free (only Garrison Resources for construction) |
| Extra reward | 50 Garrison Resources |
| Binding | Account-bound |
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1. Open your Garrison in Draenor and build the level 2 Town Hall so that the level 1 Stables blueprint becomes available.
Step 2. Build the Stables on a large-building plot. The blueprint is free, and construction takes the standard amount of time.
Step 3. Each day a new quest to capture a wild beast with a lasso appears at the Stables. The wolf unlocks on the 6th day after the building is finished, so don't skip your daily visits.
Step 4. Pick up the wolf-capture quest from Sage Paluna, head to the indicated Draenor location, use the lasso, and follow the fleeing beast until it is fully exhausted.
Step 5. After the capture you will receive a daily training quest: kill a specific Draenor mob while riding your Snarler-In-Training. The wolf's chain consists of 7 training quests and skips some of the common mobs (Rakkiri, Great-Tusk, Riplash, Gezz'ran, and Bulbapore).
Step 6. The final quest is "Wolf Training: The Garn." Fly to Nagrand to the spot at ~63, 80 and kill the elite Maimclaw without dismounting. Note: if you don't have water walking, go around the lake near Telaar along the mountain trail.
Step 7. Collect the Trained Snarler from Sage Paluna. The mount is automatically added to the collection of every character on the account.
Run Optimization
- Run all six training lines in parallel: a new capture quest appears at the Stables every day, and they are all independent. This saves time and gives you immediate progress toward Master of Mounts.
- Don't summon a hunter's pet, a mage's water elemental, or a warlock's demon during the fight with Maimclaw — the summon dismounts you and cancels your progress.
- To avoid being knocked off by Maimclaw's fear, kite him around the nearest tree: this interrupts the fear animation and keeps you mounted.
- If you want the armored version of the wolf, equip the Garn-Tooth Necklace (which drops from Maimclaw) during the finale. This grants an additional quest for the same objective.
Tips and Common Mistakes
Do not demolish the Stables until all six chains are finished: after demolition your progress is saved, but you won't be able to resume capturing new mounts until the building is rebuilt. Make sure you actually have the Trained Snarler active, not a regular mount — the final quest only counts the kill on the training model. At level 90 Draenor mobs die in one or two hits, but being dismounted still fails the task. Use instant, cast-free abilities and watch out for effects that remove your mount. If you forgot to visit the Stables for a few days, the capture quests don't disappear — they simply wait for you at Sage Paluna. However, the training of a specific mount advances only once per day, and that timer cannot be shortened.
