Prestigious War Steed
Overview

Prestigious War Steed is an Alliance ground mount that summons a war steed clad in black steel. Its armor is built for clashes in battle, and visually the steed stands out with a massive crested caparison and a fully enclosed helm.
The mount was added in Legion (patch 7.1) as a reward for an achievement tied to world PvP quests. It has never left the game since, remains available at level 80 in the current patch 11.1, and once obtained becomes shared across your entire warband.
- Type: ground, single-seat.
- Faction: Alliance only (the Horde gets the "Reins of the Prestigious War Wolf").
- Source: the achievement "Right Back at Ya".
- Expansion: Legion, patch 7.1.
- Rarity scale: medium — time-consuming, but with no random chance.
Why Get It
This is one of the few PvP mounts that is not tied to arena or battleground rating: any player can earn it regardless of skill level, as long as they have the patience. Reasons to add it to your collection:
- Prestigious look. The heavy armor and Alliance crest look great in posed screenshots and in capital cities.
- Account-wide achievement. Besides the mount, you earn achievement points and progress toward Legion meta-achievements.
- Collection progress. The mount counts toward your overall tally and is useful for achievements like "Lord of the Reins".
- Rating-free access. It requires neither arena wins nor an RBG rating — an ideal choice for casual PvP players.
Requirements
- An Alliance character (the Horde equivalent is the "Reins of the Prestigious War Wolf").
- War Mode enabled while completing the PvP quests in the Broken Isles.
- Apprentice Riding skill or higher — granted automatically at level 80.
- Access to the Broken Isles (the prologue or the Legion campaign completed at least minimally, so that world quests unlock).
- Character level: the quests scale, but it is more convenient to farm at max level (90) so as not to waste time on kills.
- Patience: the achievement requires 80 PvP quest completions in total (20 for each of the four).
How to Obtain
The mount is delivered by in-game mail right after you complete the achievement "Right Back at Ya". This is a meta-achievement that gathers four separate counters for PvP quests in the Broken Isles.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Prepare your character. Take a level 90 Alliance character, enable War Mode in Stormwind or through the PvP interface, and make sure the Broken Isles are unlocked.
- Check the rotation. Open the map of the Broken Isles and look on the world quest panel for icons with crossed swords — those are PvP quests. They are found in Azsuna, Stormheim, Val'sharah, and Highmountain.
- Azsuna — "Operation: Murloc Freedom". Fly to Azsuna and find the quest NPC on the coast. You need to free murlocs and kill enemy players trying to stop you. It counts when you turn the quest in — 20 completions required.
- Stormheim — "Mounted Clash". In Stormheim you are placed on a special mount, and the goal is to knock opponents off the arena. You need 20 completions.
- Val'sharah — "Black Rook Hold Brawl". At Black Rook Hold you pick up a quest for a race and duels on a special vehicle. 20 completions.
- Highmountain — "Darkbrul Arena". In the northern part of Highmountain you fight in an arena against other players and NPCs. 20 completions.
- Track your progress. The achievement "Right Back at Ya" shows four separate counters — check it to see which quest is done.
- Completion. After the 80th counted completion the achievement closes automatically, and the mount arrives by Alliance in-game mail within a couple of minutes.
Farming Optimization
The main difficulty is that the quests do not appear every day. Here is how to shorten the path:
- Use your warband. In 2026, progress on world quests and many achievements is shared across the entire warband. Level up several Alliance characters to level 80 at once and turn in the same quest on each of them while it is active — the counter will climb faster.
- Catch the rotation window. The PvP world quest rotation runs on the order of a few hours; plan your play sessions for moments when 2–3 of the four needed quests are active at once.
- Check the map every time you log in. The "Murloc Freedom" and "Darkbrul Arena" quests appear less often than "Mounted Clash" — don't miss them.
- Close out rare quests first. Start with the quest that is active right now and rarely appears, and put off the familiar ones "for later".
- Group up. Bring one or two allies along: a PvP objective is completed faster when you have support against enemy Horde players.
- Combine with weekly goals. Legion world quests still give Artifact Power (symbolically) and resources useful for collection achievements — the farming pays off.
Tips and Details
- War Mode is mandatory. If you turn War Mode off, the PvP quests simply won't appear on the map — a common beginner mistake.
- Playing Horde? The exact same path leads to the "Reins of the Prestigious War Wolf". The mounts are not interchangeable: the achievement on one account grants only your faction's "own" mount.
- Watch your mail. The mount comes by mail — if your mailbox inventory is full, the letter will sit there for 30 days, so don't lose it.
- No faction change needed. There is no point in defecting to the Horde for the alternative — it's easier to collect the achievement once for your own faction.
- Add-ons. World Quest Tab or a similar helper will show which PvP quests are active right now across the entire Broken Isles and save you flight time.
- Combine with collections. While doing the PvP quests you simultaneously progress toward the "Legion Collector's Path" achievement and build reputation with the old Broken Isles factions.
- Don't count on events. The mount is not sold for seasonal PvP tokens, doesn't drop from chests, and isn't part of holiday promotions — only through the achievement.
