Get Neural Synapse Enhancer
Overview

Neural Synapse Enhancer is an epic two-handed staff added to World of Warcraft in the Battle for Azeroth expansion with patch 8.2. The model is assembled from mechagnome parts: a brass shaft, a tip with coils and wires crackling with static discharge, and the overall junkyard-and-workshop aesthetic of the Mechagon island. This is clearly an engineered weapon rather than the usual magical staff topped with a crystal.
Stat-wise it is an intellect staff, so it can be wielded by anyone who uses staves as a caster weapon: mages, priests, warlocks, augmentation evokers, Balance and Restoration druids, Elemental and Restoration shamans. For transmog, only the appearance itself matters, not the item level.
The staff carries an on-use effect in the spirit of Mechagon mad science: "You jolt yourself with an electric charge, taking 324 Nature damage and increasing Intellect by 22 for 15 sec." with a 45-second cooldown. The flavor text fits right in: "Safety not guaranteed."
Source
Neural Synapse Enhancer drops in the Operation: Mechagon dungeon — a Battle for Azeroth megadungeon on Mechagon Island. With patch 8.3 the dungeon was split into two independent halves: the "Junkyard" with four bosses on the surface and the "Workshop" with four bosses in the underground city.
The drop is tied to the boss Head Machinist Sparkflux — the penultimate boss of the "Workshop", who has rigged his mechanical garden into a deadly trap for unwelcome guests.
- The staff drops from Head Machinist Sparkflux in both available dungeon difficulties.
- The approximate drop chance is around 7 percent per kill.
- There is no attempt limit: you can re-enter and fight the boss every single day until the appearance drops.
- A Mythic Keystone is not required for farming; Heroic mode is enough.
The content belongs to Battle for Azeroth and is long outdated in terms of power, so the staff is interesting purely for its looks. At max level in Midnight the dungeon is cleared solo without any trouble — Head Machinist Sparkflux has no blocking solo mechanics.
Who it suits visually
- It harmonizes with mechagnome and goblin sets in a brass-and-copper palette — for example, with Mechagon engineering outfits.
- It suits mad scientist and technomage looks thanks to the coils and electric glow.
- It contrasts with the classic cloth armor of mages and priests: an industrial staff breaks the "clean" magical image — a debatable but memorable choice.
- It fits steampunk sets and ensembles packed with gears, wires and metal.
Tips
The most convenient way to farm is Heroic Operation: Mechagon: the entrance to the second half leads straight into the "Workshop" toward the bosses you need.
At max level in Midnight the dungeon is cleared solo in a few minutes; a separate healer or group is not required.
Re-enter the dungeon daily — there is no internal limit on farming the appearance, only drop randomness gets in the way.
Claim the appearance on any character who can use an intellect staff: the look unlocks account-wide.
Alongside the staff, the "Workshop" bosses drop other Mechagon items — it makes sense to finish off all four bosses of the half per run.
After killing Sparkflux, do not forget to "apply the appearance" from the item itself, even if its stats are useless at your current level.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
