Overview

Point of the Nether Vortex

Game iconPoint of the Nether Vortex is an epic one-handed cosmetic dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 11.0.5 (October 2024) alongside the Burning Crusade Timewalking update. It is a decorative item: its item level is 1 and its damage is purely symbolic, because the dagger's role is to serve as a new transmogrification illusion rather than a real weapon.

Visually it is a narrow blade wrapped in a pulsing purple-violet Void "rift": the blade seems to stretch out of a miniature pocket dimension and leaves a trail of ethereal particles behind it. Stylistically the item is a direct nod to the Game iconNether Vortex — the legendary reagent of The Burning Crusade era.

When obtained, the dagger is bound to the warband: the illusion unlocks for every character on the account at once, with no transfer between them required.

Source

The only source is the vendor Cupri in the city of Shattrath. Cupri is a vendor of goods for time travelers, specializing in rewards for Burning Crusade Timewalking.

  • Location: Shattrath, second floor of the Terrace of Light building, coordinates roughly 54.4, 38.4.
  • Price: 1200 Game iconTimewarped Badge.
  • Requirement: the active Burning Crusade Timewalking event — the vendor is only available during those weeks, and the rest of the time the inventory is closed.
  • Warband binding: it can be purchased on any character, and the illusion will be available to the entire warband.
  • Purchase limit: none, but there is no point buying the same item again — it is already in the collection.

How to farm badges

Timewarped Badges drop from any fight in Timewalking dungeons. The most convenient sources during Burning Crusade week:

  • Any of the six TBC instances in Timewalking mode through the automatic group finder.
  • The weekly quest from Chromie at the dungeon entrances — it grants 500 badges for five clears.
  • Bonus badges from the daily adventurer group-finder bonus.

All told, 1200 badges are gathered over one or two days of active farming, or over a single week at a relaxed pace.

Who it suits visually

  • Rogues and Demon Hunters with a Void theme — the blade's purple-violet trail echoes the effects of "Abyssal Breath" and "Blade Dance."
  • Shadow Priests and Arcane Mages as a dress weapon — the dagger pairs well with purple robe sets from the Nighthold and the Castle Nathria raid.
  • For an "ethereal" or "void-bound" character concept: it harmonizes with ethereal cloaks, "Eredar" sets, and any sets with Void inlays.
  • With the look of gladiator sets from seasons with purple highlights — for example, the "Vindictive" and "Sinful" gladiator sets.
  • A questionable match for classic "fiery" or "nature" concepts — the purple trail will clash in tone.

Tips

1

The illusion is applied not to the dagger itself, but to any one-handed weapon through the transmogrification system, so a single copy is enough — buy it on only one character.

2

Before buying, check the event calendar: Burning Crusade Timewalking returns roughly once every 8–10 weeks, and the rest of the time Cupri hides the relevant inventory.

3

If you are short on badges, finish off the weekly quest from Chromie — 500 badges for five dungeons is half the cost of one dagger.

4

The purchase is not refundable: you cannot sell the item back for badges, and its sell price to a vendor is 29 copper, so a mistakenly bought dagger is better left in the collection than thrown away.

5

Badges carry over between Timewalking seasons and do not expire — stockpile them during quiet weeks so that during TBC week you can immediately buy out the target set.

6

The illusion unlocks for the entire warband, so even on an alt without the main Rogue specialization you will unlock it for the whole account, including future characters.

7

Do not confuse this dagger with the reagent inv_elemental_mote_netherNether Vortex from The Burning Crusade era — these are different items, and the reagent is not used in transmogrification.

8

Cupri's prices and assortment are planned to expand in patch 11.2.x — follow Wowhead announcements before the start of a new Burning Crusade week so you do not miss new illusions.
