Get Preyseeker's Shiv

Preyseeker's Shiv is a one-handed dagger of epic quality added to World of Warcraft with the Midnight expansion. It is a short, utilitarian blade with a dark metallic edge and a leather-wrapped grip — the weapon looks like a tracker's field knife, honed for quick strikes into the back of pursued prey. The appearance is kept in a muted graphite-and-leather palette and stylistically echoes the hunter gear of the expansion's new seasonal system.

The dagger belongs to the gear of the Prey system — a new endgame hunting mode in Midnight. By its stats the item carries Agility and Stamina, and additionally grants Critical Strike and Mastery, so in combat it goes first and foremost to rogues, feral druids in beast form, monks and demon hunters. The item has no class restriction — the dagger is suitable for transmogrification by any class that can wield daggers. For a transmog collection, of course, only the appearance itself matters.

As a combat weapon the item is item level 276 with an upgrade track of "Hero 6/6" — this means that Preyseeker's Shiv drops from the higher difficulties of Prey. But as a transmog appearance the dagger is valuable in its own right: it is a restrained, "realistic" knife model without bright magic or glow, which fits well into stealthy and hunting looks.

Preyseeker's Shiv is loot from the Prey system, the new seasonal hunting mode of the Midnight expansion. The dagger itself is not tied to a specific boss: it drops from a chest the player receives for defeating a hunt target.

• Access to the system opens up in Silvermoon: you need to complete the starting quest Prey: Astalor's Initiative. The starting character is Astalor Bloodsworn, who can be found in Silvermoon near the harbor, at roughly the coordinates 55, 60.
• After unlocking the system, hunt runs are taken from that same Astalor and are completed across the zones of the Midnight expansion: the player picks a target, tracks it down and kills it.
• Defeating a hunt target grants the Preyseeker's Adventurer Chest — the main source of gear in the system.
• The chest with gear is awarded for the first two hunt completions of a given difficulty per week per character. Subsequent runs of the same difficulty give a lighter bag with no weapon and armor slot.
• The mode has three difficulties: "Normal", "Hard" and "Nightmare". The higher the difficulty, the higher the item level of the gear inside the chest. Preyseeker's Shiv at item level 276 with the "Hero 6/6" upgrade corresponds to the higher difficulties of the system.
• Hunts can be done either solo or in a small group; there is no hard attempt limit, only the weekly cap on the "gear slot" in the chest is restricted.

The practical farm of the appearance looks like this: open the Prey system through the quest chain, raise the hunt difficulty to the higher tiers and collect the weekly chests. The chance for this specific dagger in a single chest is low, so expect several weeks of farming on one character or bring in alts.

The accompanying rewards of the Prey system — pets, mounts and transmog sets — are sold by Construct V'anore in Silvermoon for the currency Remnant of Anguish. Preyseeker's Shiv itself is not sold by the construct: its only path is through the hunt chests.

Preyseeker's Shiv has no confirmed color recolors with separate item IDs — it is a standalone appearance from the Prey weapon set. Variants similar in silhouette and theme should be sought among the other hunter weapons from the same system.
