WoW Forever Holy Priest — Specialization Changes

Specialization Overview

Healer. Holy in Forever gains low-threat healing that hits an ally and yourself at once, healing that jumps between targets, and mana returned for switching spells. Direct heals, Game iconRenew and group healing cover different patterns of incoming damage.

Classic Priest healing was already built on choosing the right spell and rank: downranked Game iconHeal or Game iconGreater Heal to save mana, Game iconFlash Heal for emergency recovery, Game iconRenew on the move, shields ahead of predictable damage. Forever does not build that choice from scratch — it adds a reward for it.

Class Changes

Binding Heal and Switching Spells

Binding Heal heals an ally and you at the same time, and it does so with low threat. It makes sense to cast after group-wide damage or when a loose enemy has reached you while the tank still needs healing. If you are at full health, a normal single-target heal puts more into the wounded player.

Litany of Light returns mana equal to part of a heal's base cost if your previous heal was a different spell. Game iconRenew followed by the right direct heal, or Binding Heal followed by a recovery — that is where the return comes from.

An important caveat: if the damage demands you repeat the same spell, repeat it. An extra cast for the sake of a smaller return spends more mana than it earns.

Prayer of Mending Follows Damage

Prayer of Mending heals when its target takes damage or non-periodic healing, then jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards. Up to five jumps in total, it lasts 30 seconds after each jump, and each Priest can have only one active target.

It follows that direct healing can move it along even before the enemy's next hit. Place it where damage and nearby allies keep it useful: a player who breaks away severs the chain, and reapplying it discards the remaining jumps. Track where it went instead of casting it blindly.

Game iconCircle of Healing solves a different problem: damage around you and healing for nearby party members, with neither generating threat. Its small radius makes positioning part of the spell's cost.

Spirit No Longer Equals Damage

At rank five, Game iconSpiritual Guidance converts up to 25% of Spirit into healing power, but only up to 8% into damage. In Classic the same rank granted up to 25% to both.

The practical takeaway: Spirit remains an attractive stat for a healer, but you cannot carry the old assumption that “Spirit equals damage” into Forever — its contribution to damage is now noticeably smaller.

Game iconSpiritual Healing boosts healing, and Game iconImproved Healing reduces the cost of named spells, including Penance and Prayer of Mending.

Crits, Procs and Survivability

Game iconSearing Light gives the periodic damage of Game iconHoly Fire a chance to make the next Game iconCircle of Healing free. It is worth using the free Game iconCircle of Healing where its radius will do useful work, rather than walking into a dangerous spot just to spend it.

A subtlety: the proc is tied to the fact that periodic damage occurred, not to that damage being a critical. Under the new crit rules for periodic effects, that distinction matters.

Game iconInspiration explicitly requires a non-periodic critical heal, Game iconBlessed Recovery restores health after you take a crit, and Game iconSpirit of Redemption gives a chance to keep healing after death.

Talent Overview

The Holy tree holds 48 points on a budget of 51. It is taken in full, and the three spare points go into Power of the Light from Discipline — the first tier, reachable without extra investment.

This is not a finished leveling build. It is only a sample distribution of abilities for reference.

Weapon Choice

Holy is a pure healer tree, so weapons are judged by their healing bonus, Intellect and Spirit. The item's damage is irrelevant.

Spirit in Forever is especially valuable for this tree: Game iconSpiritual Guidance converts up to 25% of Spirit into healing power. But you can no longer rely on it as a source of damage — only up to 8% goes into damage power.

A set of a one-handed weapon and an off-hand item often gives more total stats than a staff, but staves frequently carry one large spell bonus — you need to compare on a case-by-case basis.

Crit chance works on more than just healing volume: Game iconInspiration requires a specifically non-periodic critical heal, and in Discipline a crit additionally triggers Divine Protection.
