WoW Forever Combat Rogue — Specialization Changes
Specialization Overview
Melee combat and cleaving across multiple targets. Combat in Forever rewards continuous work between cooldown windows. The weapon-specialization talents have been merged into one, damage finishers bring your major abilities back sooner, and the familiar mobility and control talents help you keep swinging once a fight stops being static.
Class Changes
Restless Blades reshapes the rotation
Restless Blades reduces the remaining cooldown of
Adrenaline Rush,
Blade Flurry,
Evasion,
Sprint and
Vanish by two seconds for each combo point spent on a damage finisher.
The key detail is in the wording:
Slice and Dice,
Expose Armor,
Kidney Shot and Poison do not count as damage finishers. That means finishers like
Eviscerate and
Rupture now have a second payoff, but that does not mean you can drop attack-speed upkeep or the assigned debuff.
The order is this: first the sustaining effects that let you keep hitting, then the extra combo points go into damage while the relevant abilities are actually cooling down. Spend before the target becomes unreachable: a damage finisher on a dying enemy will still return time, and the self-buff can carry over to the next target.
The defensive side changes too.
Sprint,
Evasion and
Vanish come back faster, so plan around the actual remaining time after your finishers rather than the base schedule.
Cooldown windows and energy
Adrenaline Rush doubles energy regeneration for 15 seconds. Turn it on with room to spend that energy and a target you can hit: activating it at full energy right before disengaging simply wastes the resource.
Blade Flurry grants 20% attack speed and makes your attacks strike an additional nearby enemy for 15 seconds. The attack-speed bonus is useful even on a single target, while the cleave is best turned on when a second target is safe to damage.
You can stack both abilities to concentrate pressure in one window, or spread them across successive pulls. Restless Blades gives you a reason to think past the first use: an ability turned on early enough will recover noticeably and come back sooner.
Weapons, generators and attack reliability
Hack and Slash merges every weapon-type specialization into a single talent. Axes and swords can grant an extra attack, daggers and fist weapons give crit, and maces ignore part of the target's armor.
Surprise Attacks now reduces the target's chance to dodge and parry rather than granting the classic weapon skill with swords, fist weapons and daggers. This broadens the talent's weapon coverage, but the mechanic is different and it does not replace the remaining benefits of weapon skill.
Improved Sinister Strike makes
Sinister Strike cheaper. Puncturing Wounds supports
Backstab crit and extra combo-point generation, while also adding crit to Mutilate — that is a separate route through the tree for dagger builds.
Aggression buffs
Backstab alongside
Sinister Strike and
Eviscerate.
Dual Wield Specialization keeps the classic off-hand damage bonus, and
Precision grants hit to both weapons and poisons.
Control that lets you keep hitting
Endurance reduces the cooldown of
Sprint and
Evasion, while Improved Sprint at full rank removes movement-impairing effects. Restless Blades returns
Sprint faster once you have spent it to break away or shed a slow.
Riposte becomes available after a parry and deals weapon damage.
Core Ability Descriptions
Sinister Strike
Sinister Strike is the tree's main generator; Improved Sinister Strike lowers its cost, and
Aggression raises its damage.
Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush
Blade Flurry grants 20% attack speed and cleave onto a second target for 15 seconds, while
Adrenaline Rush doubles energy regeneration for 15 seconds. Both return faster through Restless Blades.
Finishers
Eviscerate and
Rupture are damage finishers, and they are what trigger the cooldown returns.
Slice and Dice speeds up attacks,
Expose Armor strips armor, and
Kidney Shot stuns, but they do not return cooldowns.
Riposte
Riposte opens up after a parry and deals weapon damage — one more reason to keep
Lightning Reflexes and
Evasion in mind.
Control and mobility
Kick interrupts,
Gouge and
Blind take an enemy out of the fight,
Sprint and
Vanish cover repositioning, and
Evasion keeps you alive under physical damage.
Talent Overview
The Combat tree holds 44 points against a 51-point budget. It is taken in full, and the seven spare points go into the first tier of Assassination:
Malice at five points raises the crit of attacks and poisons, and Improved Gouge at two.
This is not a finished leveling build. It is only a sample point distribution for reference.
Talents
Weapon Choice
Combat is the most weapon-flexible tree: Hack and Slash covers every type at once and gives a different bonus depending on what is in your hands. Axes and swords give an extra-attack chance, daggers and fist weapons give crit, and maces ignore part of the armor.
From this follows the main principle: choose your weapon and generator together. A weapon-type bonus on its own does not justify an awkward playstyle — if the fight does not let you stand behind the target constantly, daggers with
Backstab will work worse than swords with
Sinister Strike, even at equal item damage.
The standard for the tree is a slow weapon in the main hand and a fast one in the off-hand:
Sinister Strike is calculated from main-hand damage, while the off-hand works through
Dual Wield Specialization and auto-attacks.
Surprise Attacks reduces the target's chance to dodge and parry — this replaced the classic weapon skill, but only in effect, not in mechanic. Weapon skill still works in its own way, and items that carry it should be compared separately.
As for stats: strength and agility give attack power, crit works through
Aggression and Hack and Slash, and hit through
Precision covers both weapons and poisons.
