WoW Forever Subtlety Rogue — Specialization Changes
Specialization Overview
Class Changes
Hemorrhage feeds your bleed
Hemorrhage deals weapon damage, with a higher coefficient for a dagger, and makes the target take 15% more damage from your
Rupture for 15 seconds.
This is a fundamental difference from classic. There,
Hemorrhage applied a stacking debuff that added damage to physical attacks against the target — meaning it worked for the whole group. In Forever it strengthens your bleed specifically.
Serrated Blades adds armor penetration to your attacks and increases the damage of
Rupture. These are two separate bonuses: the penetration helps attacks that depend on armor at all, while the
Rupture modifier works on the bleed.
Maintaining the
Hemorrhage effect is worth it when your
Rupture will keep ticking. Before you commit to a fresh bleed, check the target’s remaining health: against a short-lived enemy, immediate damage is the better choice.
Thousand Cuts and out-of-stealth openers
Each tick of
Rupture grants a three-energy discount on the next
Hemorrhage or
Backstab for ten seconds, stacking up to five times.
An important detail: Thousand Cuts does not add energy to the bar directly. It is strictly a discount, and you need to spend it on a suitable generator while keeping
Rupture up so the discounts keep coming. You can bank stacks, but sitting at full energy for the maximum discount means losing regeneration.
Cutthroat gives
Backstab a chance to make the next
Ambush within ten seconds cost no stealth. The classic
Ambush required three things: stealth, a dagger in the main hand, and a position behind the target. Cutthroat removes only the stealth requirement — the text says nothing about weapon or position.
Improved Ambush increases the critical strike chance of
Ambush, while Opportunity boosts its damage and that of several other attacks. Watch the proc window alongside your energy: getting a proc is useless if you spend everything on another generator before you can make use of it.
Opening combat and control
Premeditation adds two combo points that must be used or added to within 20 seconds.
Initiative can add one more point through
Ambush,
Garrote, or
Cheap Shot, while
Dirty Deeds makes
Cheap Shot and
Garrote cheaper and removes the behind-the-target requirement from
Garrote.
Hence the choice of opener for each specific fight: immediate damage, a bleed that will have time to work, or control that buys your team time to act.
Ghostly Strike grants a short dodge boost and has a higher damage coefficient with a dagger in the main hand.
Setup turns dodges and fully resisted spells into combo points.
Core Ability Descriptions
Hemorrhage
Hemorrhage is a generator that deals weapon damage and strengthens your
Rupture by 15%. With a dagger in the main hand, the coefficient is higher.
Rupture
Rupture is the center of the whole tree. Its ticks trigger Thousand Cuts, and its damage is boosted by
Hemorrhage and
Serrated Blades.
Ambush and Cutthroat
Ambush remains the strongest opener, and Cutthroat gives
Backstab a chance to open it outside of stealth.
Improved Ambush raises the crit chance.
Premeditation and Initiative
Premeditation grants two combo points up front, and
Initiative adds a point on opening. Together they let you come out of stealth with a finisher already ready.
Ghostly Strike
Ghostly Strike deals damage and increases dodge — with
Setup it is also a source of combo points.
Control and stealth
Stealth with the Camouflage talent speeds up movement while stealthed,
Sap and
Blind remove enemies before combat,
Cheap Shot and
Kidney Shot stun, and
Preparation resets cooldowns.
Talent Overview
The Subtlety tree holds 47 points on a 51-point budget. It is taken in full, and the four spare points go into
Malice from the Assassination tree — a direct boost to critical strike chance.
This is not a ready-made leveling build. It is only an example distribution of abilities for reference.
Talents
Weapon Choice
Subtlety is built around a dagger in the main hand.
Ambush requires it outright,
Hemorrhage and
Ghostly Strike have a higher damage coefficient with it, and
Backstab does not work without it at all.
A slow dagger in the main hand is preferable to a fast one:
Ambush,
Backstab, and
Hemorrhage scale from weapon damage, so a big hit per strike matters more than frequency. In the off hand the logic is reversed — there you want speed for poison procs and auto-attacks.
Among stats, agility and crit take priority:
Improved Ambush and
Malice boost opener crit, while
Setup and
Initiative turn combat events into combo points. The armor penetration from
Serrated Blades helps attacks that depend on armor, but it does not affect
Rupture damage — that is handled by a separate modifier of the same talent.
Position remains part of the weapon choice: Cutthroat removes only the stealth requirement from
Ambush. If the fight does not allow you to stand behind the target, a build through
Backstab and
Ambush will work worse than one through
Hemorrhage.
