WoW Forever Elemental Shaman — Specialization Changes

Specialization Overview

Ranged, spell damage. In classic, Elemental leaned on Game iconLightning Bolt, while Game iconChain Lightning was throttled by mana and propped up by the occasional free spell. In Forever the tree gains the Game iconFlame Shock and Lava Burst combo, free duplicate lightning casts and reliable protection against being interrupted.

Class Changes

Flame Shock before Lava Burst

Lava Burst has a 2.5-second cast and a ten-second cooldown. Your Game iconFlame Shock on the target increases its damage by 20%.

This is specifically a damage bonus, not a guaranteed critical strike — a common mix-up borrowed from later versions of the game.

When you switch targets the combo has to be rebuilt: a fresh enemy does not inherit the bonus from a Game iconFlame Shock left on the previous one. And do not spend a full setup on a foe that will die before the finishing spell lands.

Game iconCall of Flame empowers Game iconFlame Shock, Lava Burst, Fire Nova Totem and fire totems. Game iconConcussion names Game iconLightning Bolt, Game iconChain Lightning and Game iconEarth Shock. These are separate investments, not a shared spell-damage boost: if a fight restricts one school, switch to the one that works instead of clinging to a fixed sequence.

Lightning, free spells and crit

Rank 7 Game iconLightning Bolt in Forever casts in 2.5 seconds instead of the classic three, and rank 1 Game iconChain Lightning in two seconds instead of 2.5. Lightning Mastery shortens them further.

Lightning Overload gives these spells a chance to spawn a second copy of themselves at half strength, with no extra mana cost and no threat from the duplicate. The threat is generated by the original spell.

Call of Thunder adds crit to Game iconLightning Bolt and Game iconChain Lightning, while Game iconElemental Fury boosts the critical damage bonus of fire, frost and nature spells, as well as Game iconSearing Totem and Game iconMagma Totem. Game iconElemental Focus keeps the classic mechanic: after a fire, frost or nature damage spell there is a chance the next damage spell becomes free, and no crit is required for it.

Game iconConvection lowers the cost of shocks and named direct spells — that is the backbone of sustain in long fights.

Range, roots and area damage

Elemental Reach increases the range of Game iconLightning Bolt, Game iconChain Lightning, Fire Nova Totem and Lava Burst, and for Game iconFlame Shock the bonus is even larger. Lightning Mastery shortens the cast time of Game iconLightning Bolt, Game iconChain Lightning and Lava Burst.

Game iconEye of the Storm reduces interruption of these spells directly. The classic version first required that a melee or ranged critical strike land on you — now the protection works right away.

Earth's Grasp makes Game iconEarthbind Totem immobilize nearby enemies for five seconds when it is placed. Set it down close enough to catch a runaway foe, and use the root to back off to casting range.

The classic Fire Nova Totem had to survive the delay before it detonated. In Forever Improved Fire Nova Totem instead changes the damage and cooldown of the spell itself — just watch that a crowd-controlled enemy is not caught in the area.

Key Ability Overview

Lava Burst

Lava Burst is the tree's new button: 2.5-second cast, ten-second cooldown, and plus 20% damage against a target carrying your Game iconFlame Shock.

Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning

Game iconLightning Bolt and Game iconChain Lightning remain your damage backbone. Lightning Overload gives them a chance at a free duplicate, Call of Thunder raises their crit, and Lightning Mastery speeds up the cast.

Shocks

Game iconFlame Shock primes a target for Lava Burst, Game iconEarth Shock delivers instant damage and an interrupt, and Game iconFrost Shock slows.

Totems

Game iconSearing Totem and Game iconMagma Totem add steady damage, Game iconGrounding Totem removes a spell, Game iconEarthbind Totem with Earth's Grasp immobilizes, and Game iconStoneskin Totem and Game iconHealing Stream Totem cover survivability.

Baseline

Game iconLightning Shield deals damage back, Game iconHealing Wave and Game iconLesser Healing Wave heal, Game iconAncestral Spirit brings back the fallen, and Game iconReincarnation raises you yourself.

Talent Overview

The Elemental tree holds 46 points on a budget of 51. It is taken in full, and the five spare points go into the first tier of Enhancement: Game iconEarth's Grasp at two points strengthens Game iconEarthbind Totem, and Game iconStorm Reach at three adds crit.

This is not a finished leveling build. It is only a sample point distribution to give you an idea.

Weapon Choice

Elemental is a caster tree, so weapons are judged by spell power, intellect and crit. The weapon's own damage does not factor in.

A one-handed weapon plus shield versus a staff is a question of specific items. A shaman can carry a shield, and the pairing often gives more stats overall than a staff.

Among the stats, crit is especially valuable for this tree in Forever: Call of Thunder adds it to your lightning, Game iconElemental Fury boosts the crit bonus, and Game iconElemental Focus grants free spells even without crit.

Intellect works through your mana pool and Game iconAncestral Knowledge, but with spells made cheaper by Game iconConvection the resource problem is milder than in classic. Spell hit in Forever is shared across schools, so gearing is simpler: one bonus works for both fire and nature.
