Scaleslicer — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Scaleslicer is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.0.3a). The dagger is bind-on-equip, so it can be bought or sold on the auction house until it has been worn by someone.
Visually it is a short blade with a scaled blade texture and a distinctive blue-turquoise coloring — a model from the Blackwing Descent raid set. The dagger is available to every class that can wield daggers — rogues, druids, mages, priests, warlocks, shamans and demon hunters.
In terms of combat stats the item has long been obsolete — today it is interesting purely as a transmog piece. The cold, scaled model fits well into "icy" and "draconic" looks and is rarely seen on other players because of its low drop chance.
Source
Scaleslicer is a random drop from trash mobs throughout the Blackwing Descent raid. This is the first raid of the Cataclysm expansion; its entrance is on the slope of Blackrock Mountain in the Burning Steppes, next to Nefarian's throne. The entrance can only be reached with a flying mount.
The dagger is not tied to a specific boss — it drops from ordinary elite mobs that populate the dungeon's corridors. Confirmed sources:
- Golem Sentry — a mechanical guardian that patrols the raid halls.
- Drakeadon Mongrel — an elite beast found in packs on the approaches to the bosses.
- Spirit of Anvilrage — undead from the dungeon's library wing.
The drop chance from each mob is low — this is a rare drop, so you should not count on the dagger in a single run. Farming is done by repeatedly clearing the raid: the raid resets once a week, but the trash mobs in it respawn on a separate instance copy each time you re-enter, which lets you "re-enter" the instance within a single play session.
Who it suits visually
- Harmonizes with plate and mail sets in cold tones — steel, silver, ice: the scaled blade supports an "armored" silhouette.
- Suits draconic-themed looks — especially sets of the blue and bronze dragonflights.
- Looks great paired with a second identical dagger on a rogue: a symmetrical pair of matching blades reinforces the scaled motif.
- Contrasts with dark leather armor — a cold blade against a black backdrop looks like a bright accent.
- Fitting for "nerubian" and underground-icy looks thanks to the jagged edge and turquoise glow.
Tips
The dagger is easiest to farm at max level: a Cataclysm raid is soloed with ease, and the enemies are cleared in a couple of hits.
Don't get attached to the weekly raid reset — to farm trash mobs it is enough to leave the dungeon and re-enter, and the mobs will respawn.
Since the dagger is only bind-on-equip, you can look for it on the auction house: with luck this is faster than farming.
The optimal classes for clearing are those with high movement speed and good area damage: this way the route through the raid's corridors is run noticeably faster.
Along with the dagger, other epic transmog items also drop from the raid's trash mobs — one run pays off with several appearances.
If you need a paired blade for a rogue, farm up to two copies: one dagger in the appearance set and a second for the other hand.
Check the full loot list of Blackwing Descent before a run — that way you will note in advance which other appearances are worth collecting on the same route.
