Scalpel of the Royal Apothecary — Transmog Set Guide

Scalpel of the Royal Apothecary is an epic one-handed dagger added in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion alongside the Argent Tournament update. Its stats mark it as a caster weapon: intellect, stamina, haste and versatility, which is why it unlocks for the transmog collection of classes that wield daggers — priests, mages, warlocks, druids and shamans.

Visually the dagger is rendered in a cold silvery-steel palette: a narrow straight blade with fine engraving and a tidy grip without ostentatious ornaments. The silhouette is austere and compact, with no glow or effects, which makes the scalpel a handy piece for restrained looks — the reference in the name reads plainly: this is a craftsman's instrument, not a ceremonial weapon.

The dagger is available only to the Horde.

Scalpel of the Royal Apothecary is a reputation and currency reward from the Argent Tournament, a large-scale seasonal competition from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. The tournament grounds lie in the north-east of Icecrown, by the Aspirants' pavilion, near the coordinates 75.8, 23.4.

The dagger is sold for 25 Champion's Seals — the tournament currency you earn from daily quests and from the "Trial of the Champion" dungeon. To unlock access to the purchase, you need to work your way from Aspirant to Valiant, and then become a Champion of at least one of the Horde cities.

Each dagger binds when picked up, so you cannot buy it for resale — the weapon must be acquired by the character collecting the appearance.

The scalpel is sold by five Horde quartermasters at the tournament grounds in Icecrown. They all carry the same selection of weapons, but they only serve the Champions of their own city:

Becoming the Champion of any of these cities is enough — the corresponding quartermaster will open up trade. If you plan to collect several tournament rewards at once, it is more efficient to stock up on Champion's Seals in advance: one dagger costs 25 seals, while a full day of all quests and the dungeon yields only fifteen to twenty.

• The restrained silvery-steel palette harmonizes with plate and mail sets in cold tones — for example, with a Wrath of the Lich King-era tier set.
• The narrow glow-free blade looks good in "field medic" or "alchemist" looks — a tool-dagger rather than a combat blade.
