Swift White Hawkstrider — How to Get the Mount
Swift White Hawkstrider

Swift White Hawkstrider is a rare ground mount added in The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.4). The mount drops from the final boss of the Magisters' Terrace dungeon on Heroic difficulty — Kael'thas Sunstrider. It is an elegant snow-white hawkstrider with graceful plumage that stands out among other hawkstriders with its coloring. The mount can also be purchased on the Black Market.
Why You Want This Mount
- The only white hawkstrider in the game — a unique color scheme that cannot be obtained any other way
- Historically the only hawkstrider available to Alliance characters, making it especially valuable for collectors of that faction
- The drop chance is approximately 4%, making the mount quite rare — many players spend dozens or even hundreds of attempts
- A prestigious mount from The Burning Crusade era, familiar to veteran players
- Counts toward the overall mount collection counter for achievements
How to Obtain
The primary method of obtaining is killing Kael'thas Sunstrider in the Magisters' Terrace dungeon on Heroic difficulty. The mount does not drop on Normal difficulty.
Step-by-step:
- Set the dungeon difficulty to "Heroic" (right-click your character portrait → Dungeon Difficulty → Heroic)
- Travel to the Isle of Quel'Danas and enter Magisters' Terrace (details in the section below)
- Clear through the dungeon, defeating all four bosses: Selin Fireheart, Vexallus, Priestess Delrissa, and the final boss — Kael'thas Sunstrider
- After defeating Kael'thas, check the loot — the
Swift White Hawkstrider mount will appear as an item - Use the item to learn the mount
Alternative Ways to Obtain
| Method | Description |
|---|---|
| Black Market (BMAH) | The mount periodically appears on the Black Market. The starting price is usually around 20,000 gold, but the final cost can reach hundreds of thousands of gold depending on server competition |
| An extremely rare drop from Chrono-Lord Deios in the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon. When used, it teaches a random mount from old dungeons — the Swift White Hawkstrider is on the list of approximately 16 possible mounts |

How to Get to Magisters' Terrace
Magisters' Terrace is located on the Isle of Quel'Danas — a small island north of Eversong Woods in the Eastern Kingdoms.
Step 1: Get to Shattrath
The fastest way to reach the Isle of Quel'Danas is through a portal in Shattrath (Outland).
Alliance: Use the portal to Shattrath from the Mage Tower in Stormwind.
Horde: Use the portal to Shattrath from the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar.
Step 2: Portal to the Isle of Quel'Danas
In the center of Shattrath there is a one-way portal to the Isle of Quel'Danas. It is located on the Terrace of Light near Exarch Nasuun.
Step 3: Reach the Dungeon Entrance
From the arrival point on the island, head east and up the hill. The entrance to Magisters' Terrace is in the eastern part of the island.

Prerequisites
In the current version of the game (The War Within) there are no prerequisites for entering on Heroic difficulty. Keys and quest chains for accessing Heroic dungeons from The Burning Crusade were removed back in patch 4.2.0. You can simply set Heroic mode and enter the dungeon.
Farming Optimization
Time per Run
At level 80, Magisters' Terrace takes 5–7 minutes to clear. All bosses die in seconds; the majority of time is spent moving through the dungeon.
Speed Tip
Do not kill the last trash pack before Kael'thas — if you destroy that group of mobs, the boss will begin a long roleplay intro (RP) during which he is invulnerable for about a minute. If you run past and engage him directly, you will save a significant amount of time.
Recommended Classes
| Class | Advantage |
|---|---|
| Druid | Instant Travel Form between packs, fast movement through the dungeon |
| Monk | Roll, high mobility |
| Demon Hunter | Double jump and dash for quick movement |
| Mage | Blink for faster movement |
At level 80, any class and specialization will destroy all dungeon content effortlessly. Class choice only affects movement speed between mob packs.
Farming on Alts
Since Heroic mode resets daily, the most effective strategy is to run Magisters' Terrace on multiple characters every day. Each alt is an additional attempt with an independent 4% chance.
- With 5 characters you get 5 attempts per day — statistically the mount drops in about 5 days
- With 10 characters — approximately 2–3 days
- Park your alts in Shattrath ahead of time to avoid travel time
Instance Limit
Remember the limit: no more than 10 instance entries per hour per account. Plan your mount farming routes with this limit in mind if you are farming other dungeons in parallel.
Tips
1
Combine with other mounts. On your way to Shattrath you can visit Tempest Keep (The Eye) for the
Reins of the Ashes of Al'ar from Kael'thas in the raid, as well as Sethekk Halls for the
Reins of the Raven Lord.
2
Phoenix Hatchling. Besides the mount, Kael'thas in Magisters' Terrace can also drop the
Phoenix Hatchling pet — also a rare and valuable collectible.
3
Black Market as an alternative. If you are unlucky with drops, watch the Black Market in Dornogal (coordinates /way #2339 64, 51). The mount appears there irregularly, but purchasing on the Black Market is a guaranteed way to obtain it if you have enough gold.
4
Don't forget to check the mode. Before entering, make sure Heroic mode is set. The mount does not drop on Normal mode — this is the most common mistake when farming.
5
Dungeon reset. After each run, exit the dungeon and reset it (right-click your portrait → Reset All Instances). However, you can only re-enter on Heroic the next day.
6
Use the Rarity addon. This addon tracks the number of attempts and calculates the probability of obtaining the mount, helping you monitor your farming progress.
