Swift White Steed

The Swift White Steed is an epic ground mount of the Alliance, one of Stormwind's classic "swift" steeds. It is a tall white horse with a light mane and classic tack, visually echoing the knightly aesthetic of the kingdom of Stormwind. The mount remains relevant: it is still sold by the horse breeder Katie Stokes in the Old Town of the Alliance capital, for a mere 10 gold.

The catch with this mount is that only Human characters can buy it freely. Members of the other Alliance races — dwarves, night elves, gnomes, draenei, worgen, pandaren, mechagnomes, Dark Iron dwarves, Kul Tirans and void elves — will need to reach Exalted with the Stormwind faction. No quest, no raid boss: just the vendor, gold, and, for non-humans, a reputation grind.

• The classic white knight's horse — one of the most recognizable ground-mount models in the game. Perfect for paladins, death knights, warriors and any "human" character concept
• A full epic mount — grants +100% movement speed with Expert Riding or higher. That means it travels at the maximum ground-mount speed
• For just 10 gold — this is one of the cheapest epic mounts in the game. At max level you can earn that amount in literally a couple of quests
• Account-wide — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your Alliance characters, regardless of race and class. Buy it once and you're done
• Counts toward mount achievements — it adds to your overall collection counter and brings you closer to achievements like Leading the Cavalry and other milestones for the number of mounts collected
• Part of the "Stormwind set" — Katie Stokes also sells the Swift Brown Steed and the Swift Palomino. All three mounts are swift, and it's convenient to buy them in one trip

The mount is sold by three horse breeders across the Alliance world. The item is the same from all three, the price identical — choose whichever vendor is easiest to reach.

Katie Stokes — Stormwind

The main and most convenient option. Katie stands in Stormwind by the entrance to Old Town, next to the SI:7 headquarters, in the horse pens.

The easiest way to get there is through a portal to Stormwind from any faction capital or via your hearthstone. From the Trade District, keep to the right side of the canal, walk past Stormwind Keep, enter Old Town — the horse pens will be on the left, in front of the SI:7 building entrance.

Katie Hunter — Elwynn Forest

The second vendor is found at the Eastvale Logging Camp in Elwynn Forest, on the eastern edge of the human starting zone.

If you're leveling a human along the classic route or just happen to be nearby, Katie is handier than heading back to Stormwind.

Gregor MacVince — Dustwallow Marsh

The third vendor stands on Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh (Kalimdor). Useful if you're on Kalimdor and don't want to teleport to Stormwind.

The destination is a small area with a horse pen within Theramore Keep. There is a portal and a flight point nearby, which makes the location convenient for "drop in, buy, fly off."

If your character is a human, it's perfectly simple:

1. Reach level 10 and learn Apprentice Riding
2. Gather 10 gold (a trifle at max level). If you're playing a human character that has Exalted with Stormwind by default, you'll get the vendor discount
3. Head to Stormwind to Katie Stokes at coordinates 77.0, 67.8
4. Buy the Swift White Steed from her for 10 gold
5. Use the item from your bag to add the mount to your collection
6. Open your mount collection and summon the steed from there. The bag item is no longer needed — you can sell or delete it

In a single trip you can grab all three swift steeds from Katie: the white, the brown and the palomino. That fills three mount-collection slots at once.

If you play a dwarf, night elf, gnome, draenei, worgen, pandaren, mechagnome, Dark Iron dwarf, Kul Tiran or void elf, the vendor will refuse to sell you horses until you reach Exalted with Stormwind.

Step 1. Buy the Stormwind Tabard

Go up to the Trade District of Stormwind and find Captain Lancy Revshon — he stands on a small platform by the entrance to the Park, next to the Stormwind banners.

Buy the Stormwind Tabard from him for 10 gold. The purchase requires at least Friendly reputation with Stormwind — by default most Alliance races are already above that level.

Step 2. Equip the tabard and farm reputation in dungeons

Place the Stormwind Tabard in your tabard slot. While it's worn, all reputation from killing mobs inside dungeons goes to the Stormwind fund — this is the main way to quickly reach Exalted.

The best dungeons for tabard reputation farming as of The War Within:

• Forgotten Reservoir and Botanica — many mobs, quick runs
• Utgarde — a classic choice, killed quickly solo
• Magisters' Terrace — a short dungeon, easy to reset and restart
• Any Pandaria dungeon with lots of mobs, for example Stormstout Brewery

The farming routine is simple: enter the dungeon, kill every mob along the way, exit, reset the instance via the Escape menu → "Reset all instances" section, enter again. Repeat until the "Exalted" message lights up.

Step 3. Check your reputation and discount

Open the reputation window (hotkey U → "Reputation" tab → "Alliance Capitals" → "Stormwind"). As soon as Exalted appears, the discount at Stormwind vendors reaches 20%, and the Swift White Steed will cost you not 10 gold but 8.

Step 4. Buy the mount

Return to Katie Stokes and buy all three swift steeds in one visit. After Exalted, the vendor no longer objects to non-human races.

• A human alt is the fastest way to collect the mount. If you have no desire to grind reputation, create any human level 10+ and buy the mount with them. Thanks to the shared collection account-wide, the steed will instantly appear on all characters of the account
• Combine reputation farming with other tasks. The Stormwind Tabard works in dungeons of any level. If you're already farming transmogrification appearances or collecting transmog sets from Pandaria and Northrend, just put on the tabard and gain reputation in the background
• Don't forget about the Lunar Festival Coins of Ancestry and other reputation bonuses. During the Lunar Festival, a human character can collect Elders all across Azeroth, granting a hefty reserve of Stormwind reputation. One run of the holiday can fill the entire bar
• Experience elixirs don't help with reputation, but holidays do. Keep an eye on calendar events: Feast of Winter Veil and Children's Week also give quests that reward capital-city reputation
• Check the discount before buying. If, hovering over the mount at Katie's, the price shows as 8 gold — the discount is working and you're already Exalted. If it shows 10 gold, check which reputation level you're at
• The mount doesn't conflict with class steeds. Paladins and death knights freely use the steed alongside their racial and class mounts. It's a great choice for players who want a "plain" horse without a story tie-in
