Swift Zulian Tiger

Swift Zulian Tiger is one of the most prestigious and rare mounts in World of Warcraft. It is a massive sabertooth with a bright orange hide and black tiger stripes, visually referencing the troll cult of Zanzil and the sacred tigers of Zul'Gurub. The mount was added to the game back in patch 1.7.0 (September 2005), alongside the release of the original Zul'Gurub raid.

In modern retail, obtaining it the usual way — by farming the raid — is impossible. The original Zul'Gurub was removed from the game in patch 4.0.3a with the launch of Cataclysm, and along with it went the drop from High Priest Thekal. Today, in the current version, the mount can only be acquired through the Black Market — an auction house where the game itself lists rare and otherwise unobtainable items.

• Prestige and rarity — according to statistics, fewer than 3% of players own this mount. It's one of those mounts that immediately draws attention in any capital city
• Unique model — the orange sabertooth with black stripes exists in the game in only two variants: the Swift Zulian Tiger and its rare cousin, the Swift Mistsaber. There is no other way to obtain this coloration
• Ground mount with maximum speed — a bonus of +60% or +100% movement speed depending on your riding skill. In terms of speed, it is on par with any other ground mount
• Account-wide access — once obtained, the mount unlocks for all characters on your account, including future alts
• Part of the Zul'Gurub collection — together with the Swift Zulian Raptor they form the famous "tiger and raptor" pair that historically dropped from the same raid. The raptor can still be farmed in the Cataclysm-era Heroic Zul'Gurub, while the tiger can only be obtained on the Black Market

The original 20-player Zul'Gurub raid was located in Stranglethorn Vale and was available from patch 1.7.0. It housed ten bosses, each bearing the name of a troll loa deity, and High Priest Thekal dropped the tiger — the rarest reward, hunted from the earliest days of the game.

In patch 4.0.3a (November 23, 2010), shortly before the launch of Cataclysm, Blizzard completely removed the 20-player version of the raid from the game. A few months later, with the release of patch 4.1, Zul'Gurub returned — but now as a five-player Heroic dungeon dropping the Armored Razzashi Raptor rather than the tiger. As a result, for roughly five years — from 2010 to 2014 — the mount was completely unobtainable and sat in the collections of those who had managed to get it back in Vanilla or TBC.

Everything changed with the release of Warlords of Draenor. In patch 6.0.2, Blizzard added the Swift Zulian Tiger to the list of possible Black Market lots, and ever since, this has been the only way to obtain the mount in retail.

What is the Black Market

The Black Market is a special auction house where the seller is not another player, but the game itself. It offers rare and exclusive items: mounts from outdated raids, Tier 3 transmog sets, the full "Cursed" set, pets, toys, and TCG relics. The selection changes every day and depends on your server (or connected server group). Lots last from 12 to 24 hours, and there is no "buy now" button on the Black Market: only bids, only the auction.

Every time you visit the relevant NPC, the list of lots refreshes, but the set of items is determined randomly by the game. The mount may not appear for weeks or even months, and when it does appear, a fierce battle for it will immediately begin.

Where the Black Market is located

In Midnight, the main full-featured Black Market for bidding is located in Silvermoon City, in the Murder Row.

Checking the list of lots

When you open the Black Market window, it will contain a list of several dozen entries. You can find the desired mount in two ways:

• Manually scroll through the list and look for the line "Swift Zulian Tiger"
• Use addons that notify you when specific items appear (for example, TradeSkillMaster or specialized BMAH trackers)

If the mount isn't on the list — come back the next day. The list refreshes completely every day.

How to place a bid

1. Select the Swift Zulian Tiger in the list
2. The minimum starting bid is 20,000 gold
3. Enter your bid amount (it must be no less than the minimum increment step)
4. Confirm the bid — the amount is immediately deducted from your character
5. If you are outbid — the gold is returned to you by mail. If you win the auction — the mount arrives by mail some time after the lot ends

Daily checks

The main secret of the Black Market is consistency. Add a visit to Madam Goya to your daily routine: log into the game — check the list of lots. Most successful rare-mount hunters do exactly this for months, if not years.

Using multiple servers

Since the Black Market's selection depends on the server, it makes sense to set up characters on different servers and check the market on each. Servers from different connected groups work best — this effectively gives you several independent "subscriptions" to the chance of seeing the tiger.

• Create a level 10+ alt on several different server connections
• Level it at least high enough to teleport to Silvermoon City
• Create a macro with the character's password to quickly switch between them

Saving up gold

Even if you get lucky and the lot appears on your server — without a gold reserve, you won't win the auction. The recommended minimum is 5–10 million gold on your main character. On large servers, you should have 15–20 million to reliably outbid competitors.

The main ways to accumulate gold:

• Professions (gem cutting, alchemy, cooking)
• Selling crafting reagents obtained through profession quests
• Farming rare events and world quests
• Selling mounts, pets, and recipes that drop from old content
• Auction house trading

Lot expiration timer

The best chance to buy the mount cheaply is the last 30 minutes of the lot's existence. The logic is simple: major collectors have already placed their bids, while random wealthy players may simply not notice the lot before it closes. If you see a Swift Zulian Tiger with a low current bid and a short timer — don't wait, bid right away.
