About the Class

This guide is based on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta and covers gameplay up to level 20. The talents and combat tips are starting recommendations built on the spells and talents available in the beta. They will be refined as testing continues.

Holy Paladin brings very strong single-target healing plus a wide range of Blessings and auras that earn it a spot in any content. On top of that, Paladins wear plate, so they have more freedom in gear choices than other healers and can pick up strong items of any armor type.

Strengths

  • Powerful single-target healing: spell_holy_flashhealFlash of Light is cheap and fast, while spell_holy_holyboltHoly Light handles the big health drops.
  • Blessings and auras strengthen the whole group.
  • Plate armor: you can wear strong pieces from any armor type.
  • Healers are always wanted in groups, so putting a run together is easy.

Weaknesses

  • Healing comes down to two buttons, and there are no group heals in the beta.
  • spell_holy_holyboltHoly Light costs a lot of Mana.
  • Experience from dungeon runs was cut, and dungeons are exactly where Paladins usually leveled.
  • Single-target damage is modest, and solo play is slow.

Stat Priority

Paladin Holy Stats Priority
  1. 1Healing Power
  2. 2Intellect
  3. 3Mana per 5
  4. 4Spirit
  5. 5Critical Strike

A higher-level item is usually better, but a lower-level piece can carry more of the stats you need. Compare the stats, not the level.

Talent Notes

  • Improved Holy Strike 2/2 — boosts Game iconHoly Strike.
  • Game iconDivine Intellect 5/5 — more Intellect, which means a bigger Mana pool.
  • Game iconImproved Seals 3/3 — boosts your Seals.
  • Reverence 1/1 — the last point at level 20.

Ability Priority

Abilities Priority
  • spell_holy_flashhealFlash of Light — your main button: it's cheap, so you can fit a lot of casts into a fight
  • spell_holy_holyboltHoly Light — for when you need to heal up heavy damage. Keep its high cost in mind

Leveling

Experience from dungeon runs has been cut noticeably in Forever, and this hits healer Paladins hardest: dungeons are where they usually leveled. At the same time, experience from dungeon quests was raised, so runs for those quests are still worth it, and a healer has no trouble finding a group spot.

Log out in a capital city or at an inn: that's how you build up rested experience.

Important Abilities

Important Abilities
main healing button
big single-target heal
the Seal you keep up at all times
extra damage against Undead and demons
healing for yourself and allies
buffs to keep up at all times

Best in Slot (BiS)

There is no BiS list in the beta. Pick up higher-level items if their stats suit you. Plate lets you take strong pieces of any armor type.

Enchants, Gems, Consumables

Consumables
Even at low levels there are plenty of small things that make leveling noticeably easier. Healing potions and Mana potions bail you out in a tough spot, and elixirs boost your stats.
Cooking provides food with stat bonuses, and in Forever the Well Fed buff also speeds up experience gain by 5%. Blacksmiths craft sharpening stones and weightstones, which slightly increase weapon damage.

Best Professions

Mining and Blacksmithing

Lets you craft your own upgrades: mail armor, shields, and weapons. Forever added a lot of items starting from the very lowest levels.

Herbalism and Alchemy

The second solid pairing: your own healing potions and Mana potions plus elixirs with long-lasting buffs. The downside is that it gives you no gear.

Cooking and First Aid

Secondary professions worth taking no matter what: food with bonuses and an experience boost, plus bandages for when you run out of Mana.
