Specialization Overview

Healer. In Classic, Restoration relied on single-target Game iconHealing Wave, Game iconChain Heal on a clustered group, and Game iconLesser Healing Wave for urgent moments. In Forever, Riptide arrives — an instant heal with a heal-over-time follow-up, Water Shield returns mana on critical heals, and Game iconHealing Way no longer needs to be stacked up on a target.

Class Changes

Riptide Picks the First Target

Riptide is instant, recharges in six seconds, and combines a direct heal with a 15-second effect. On top of that, it boosts the effectiveness of your Game iconChain Heal cast straight from that target by 25%. Use it on the move or to pull one wounded ally back up, then start Game iconChain Heal from that same target if there are others hurt nearby. A single target far from the group may still need Riptide — it just will not become the starting point for a chain.

No heal-over-time absorb is announced for Game iconChain Heal here. Keep the ongoing healing of Riptide in your calculations, and note that the separate change to critical effects on damage-over-time does not carry over to healing-over-time.

Healing Wave Without Ramp-Up

Game iconHealing Way now directly boosts the healing of Game iconHealing Wave. In Classic, it was a chance to apply a temporary buff to the target that improved subsequent waves. Your first Game iconHealing Wave on a freshly wounded player gets the bonus right away, with no stacking.

Game iconImproved Healing Wave shortens the cast, and Game iconNature's Swiftness makes your next eligible Nature spell instant for an emergency. Game iconAncestral Healing still rewards critical heals with armor — especially useful on a tank under physical attacks. When the wounded are scattered and a chain will not form, heal one target at a time.

Water Shield and Resource Recovery

Water Shield carries three orbs. An orb is consumed when a spell hits you, when you take a melee or ranged strike, or when your healing spell crits; in return you get back 2% of your maximum mana. An orb triggers no more than once every few seconds. The shield lasts ten minutes on a 15-second cooldown, so watch both the remaining orbs and when it is ready to refresh. Only one elemental shield is active at a time: Game iconLightning Shield removes Water Shield.

Meditation at three points preserves 51% of mana regeneration while casting, Game iconTidal Focus makes your healing cheaper, and Game iconTotemic Focus reduces the cost of totems and the spells that summon or move them. Game iconMana Tide Totem returns mana to party members within 30 yards over 12 seconds: place it in range of the players who need it, and ahead of time so they can spend what comes back.

Overview of Key Abilities

Riptide

An instant heal with a 15-second follow-up. Beyond the direct benefit, Riptide primes the target for an empowered Game iconChain Heal, so it is worth applying in advance rather than only in an emergency.

Chain Heal

Game iconChain Heal is the backbone of healing a clustered group. Start the chain from the target under Riptide and make sure allies are standing close enough to one another.

Healing Wave and Lesser Healing Wave

Game iconHealing Wave is heavy single-target healing, boosted by Game iconHealing Way and sped up by Game iconImproved Healing Wave. Game iconLesser Healing Wave is cheaper and faster when speed matters more than volume.

Totems

Game iconHealing Stream Totem heals the group a little at a time, Game iconMana Spring Totem returns mana, Game iconStoneskin Totem reduces incoming physical damage, Game iconGrounding Totem removes a spell from an ally, and Game iconEarthbind Totem holds an enemy in place.

Baseline

Game iconLightning Shield deals damage in response when Water Shield is not needed, Game iconEarth Shock interrupts an enemy cast, Game iconAncestral Spirit brings back the fallen, Game iconReincarnation raises you yourself, and Game iconWater Walking and Game iconAstral Recall cover everyday tasks.

Talents Overview

The Restoration tree holds exactly 51 points — the entire budget goes into it in full, leaving no spare points for the neighboring trees.

This is not a finished leveling build. It is only a sample point distribution for reference.

Weapon Choice

For a healer, what matters is not the weapon's damage but the stats on it, so a one-handed weapon with a shield or a staff is chosen for its healing, intellect, and spirit lines. Damage per hit plays no role here.

Healing power is the primary stat: it directly raises Game iconChain Heal, Game iconHealing Wave, and Riptide alike. Intellect provides a mana pool and spell crit chance, spirit works on regeneration, and with Meditation part of that regeneration continues even while casting.

Crit chance for a healer is not only healing volume: Game iconAncestral Healing turns crits into armor on the target, and Water Shield returns mana for them. Cast speed is valuable alongside Game iconImproved Healing Wave, when you need to pull a target back up before the next hit.

Do not forget about shaman relics: they strengthen specific healing-school spells, so choose one for whatever you heal with most often.
