Overview

Spotted Frostsaber

Game iconReins of the Spotted Frostsaber is a night elf ground mount from the original World of Warcraft, one of four racial saber models in a white winter coloring. Visually it is a large cat with long fangs, thick white fur dotted with gray and black spots, and blue eyes. These were the very sabers the night elves rode through the forests of Teldrassil before the events of Battle for Azeroth.

The mount is purchased from a special vendor in the night elf capital. If you play a night elf, you simply need to walk up to the right NPC with 1 gold in your pocket. Members of other Alliance races will need to reach Revered with the Darnassus faction — that is the only reputation requirement. The mount is unavailable to Horde characters.

Why you want this mount

  • Completing your collection — one of the most accessible Alliance racial mounts. After purchase, the mount unlocks on every character on your account.
  • Achievement progress — it counts toward Cavalry Commander (50 mounts), Mountain o' Mounts (100 mounts), and all subsequent collector threshold achievements.
  • Transmog for a mounted look — the white fur and winter coloring pair well with icy weapon and gear themes.
  • Maximum ground mount speed — after learning Game iconApprentice Riding, the mount travels with the same bonus as the epic variants: +60% or +100% depending on your overall riding skill.
  • One of seven sabers from Lelanai — while you are at the vendor, it is convenient to knock out several models for your collection at once.

Where to find the vendor

Before Battle for Azeroth, Lelanai stood in the Cenarion Enclave in old Darnassus. After the burning of Teldrassil and the founding of the new night elf capital — Bel'ameth among the roots of Amirdrassil — the vendor relocated there along with the rest of the community. In The War Within (patch 11.1), you will find her in Bel'ameth, near the riding trainer Jartsam.

Approximate in-game coordinates for Lelanai in Bel'ameth:

/way #2239 51.4 65.8 Lelanai — Saber Riding Trainer

How to get to Bel'ameth

  1. Fly to Stormwind
  2. Head to the Mage Quarter in the southern part of the city and enter the Wizard's Sanctum
  3. Climb the stairs to the upper level — at the back of the hall there is a portal to Bel'ameth
  4. Step through the portal — you will arrive in Bel'ameth at roughly 55, 63
  5. Move southeast from the portal plaza toward the area where the riding animals and mount vendors are located — Lelanai will be near the saber pavilion

If you play a druid, a dedicated portal to Bel'ameth has appeared in the Emerald Dream — an even faster route. Alternatively, you can use the Dreamwalk hearthstone or a hearthstone set to Bel'ameth at the city's innkeeper.

Step-by-step mount acquisition

  1. Check the faction requirements. The mount is unavailable to Horde characters — it is sold only to Alliance members.
  2. Check your reputation with Darnassus. Open the reputation panel (press U → Reputation tab → Alliance → Darnassus). If you are a night elf, the value does not matter — the purchase is open by racial right. For all other Alliance races, you need the Revered level.
  3. Save up 1 gold. At max level this is a symbolic sum.
  4. Head to Bel'ameth via the portal in the Wizard's Sanctum in Stormwind.
  5. Find Lelanai at coordinates 51.4, 65.8. If a non-night-elf has not reached Revered, the vendor will say, "You are not revered enough with me," and the mount list will remain empty.
  6. Open the trade window and buy Game iconReins of the Spotted Frostsaber. The item will appear in your bag.
  7. Right-click the reins — the mount will be added to your mount journal and become available to all characters on your account.

How to reach Revered with Darnassus (for non-night elves)

Reputation with the night elves is earned slowly but predictably. The most reliable methods in the current patch:

  • Story quests in Teldrassil, Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Stonetalon Mountains — the main bulk source of reputation points while leveling.
  • Turning in Runecloth to Raedon Duskstalker in Darnassus (the historical location) or to his successor in Bel'ameth. Each turned-in set of 60 Game iconRunecloth grants 75 reputation.
  • The Exodar of Darnassus at the Argent Tournament — emissary Rook Hawkfist and the daily Tournament tasks in Icecrown also fill the reputation bar.
  • Racial bonus — if you already have a night elf character with the "Patronage of the Vanguard" trait learned, it gains accelerated reputation growth with allied factions.

In total, reaching Revered with Darnassus "from scratch" takes a few hours of focused cloth turn-ins or one to two weeks of routine Tournament tasks.

Other sabers from Lelanai

While you are at the vendor, it makes sense to knock out the remaining racial sabers. They all work through reputation (or the night elf race) too, and count toward mount collector achievements.

Mount Price Speed
Game iconReins of the Spotted Frostsaber 1 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Striped Frostsaber 1 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Striped Nightsaber 1 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Striped Dawnsaber 1 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Swift Frostsaber 10 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Swift Mistsaber 10 gold +60%/+100%
Game iconReins of the Swift Stormsaber 10 gold +60%/+100%

All seven models share the same animation and speed — the difference is only in fur color and distinctive markings.

Tips

1

Don't buy the mount prematurely on a new character — it unlocks account-wide anyway, so a single visit with any Alliance character is enough.

2

Plan your visit in advance — if you are farming reputation on a non-night elf, turn in cloth and complete daily Tournament tasks alongside your main activity so you don't spend a whole evening on a single checklist item.

3

Don't confuse it with ability_mount_pinktigerReins of the Winterspring Frostsaber — that is a different, far rarer mount with its own quest chain in Winterspring. The model and name are similar, but the source is completely different.

4

If the vendor shows no mounts — it means you either have insufficient reputation or a non-Alliance character. The item list will open only after the conditions are met.

5

Use a druid portal or a group mage — for repeat visits, it is convenient to keep Bel'ameth in your list of "hot" locations. A mage in your group can open a portal directly to the new night elf capital.

6

Achievement credit happens instantly — as soon as the mount is added to the journal, the system updates the counters for Cavalry Commander and subsequent achievements.
