Specialization Overview

Melee, damage, and PvP. In Forever the specialization is built around heavy two-handed weapons, short reaction windows, and deliberate damage trades across multiple targets. Game iconRend works not only as periodic damage but also as a condition for direct attacks, Game iconSlam finally fits into the pauses between decisions, and the type of weapon in your hands changes how you deal damage — and you no longer need separate specialization talents for each weapon type to do it.

This is a specialization for those who enjoy it when a weapon upgrade, positioning, and rage management actually matter. Arms gained a steady single-target rhythm without losing either Game iconMortal Strike or its controlled cleaving across several enemies.

Class Changes

Rend Enables Overpower

The main change to the tree is the talent Bloodthirst. Your melee attacks against a target affected by your Game iconRend have up to a 10% chance to activate Game iconOverpower for one attack against the current target; the window lasts 6 seconds.

In Classic, Game iconOverpower required the enemy to dodge your attack — and you simply waited for that event. Now the ability has a second, self-driven source of activation. The check is tied to your melee attacks, not to bleed ticks, so you need to keep the bleed on exactly the target you are hitting, and spend the window that opens up before it expires.

Game iconImproved Overpower at two points adds 50% to Game iconOverpower critical strike chance. Together with Game iconImpale and Game iconDeep Wounds, this turns Game iconRend into a dual-purpose talent: it deals damage itself and opens access to another attack with a high crit chance.

Slam No Longer Resets the Swing

Game iconImproved Slam now reduces both the cast time and the overall cooldown by 0.5 seconds, and most importantly — Game iconSlam stops interrupting the weapon swing. In Classic the talent only cut the cast time, while the ability itself reset the swing timer, which forced two-handed builds to use Game iconSlam right after an auto-attack to minimize the loss.

Forever removes that timing tax itself rather than turning Game iconSlam into a new ability. You still need to stand within range and spend time on the cast, so against a moving target an instant attack often remains the better rage investment.

Rage Between Stances and Out of Combat

Improved Tactical Mastery increases the amount of rage that Tactical Mastery retains when switching stances — up to 15 points above baseline at five points. Game iconAnger Management generates 1 rage every 3 seconds in combat and reduces rage loss out of combat by 30%.

The wording of Game iconAnger Management should not be read as the arrival of a new generator: in Classic the talent also gave rage in combat, the tooltip just did not mention it. In Forever the text was simply brought in line with the actual behavior.

Description of Core Abilities

Mortal Strike

Game iconMortal Strike remains the calling card of the tree: weapon damage plus a fixed bonus and, more importantly, a 50% reduction to the healing received by the target for 10 seconds. In PvP this means the enemy healer spends twice as many resources for the same result — the value of the specialization is not limited to numbers in the damage log.

Rend

Game iconRend in Forever does two jobs at once. The first is the usual periodic damage, boosted by the Game iconImproved Rend talent by 36%. The second is to serve as the condition for triggering Bloodthirst. It is worth keeping the bleed on the target you are hitting; there is no point refreshing it on an enemy you are finishing off — if the target dies before you get the ticks and the follow-up attacks, it is better to simply finish it.

Overpower

Game iconOverpower is a cheap attack with a very high crit chance, available in Game iconBattle Stance. Previously the window for it opened only after the enemy dodged; now Bloodthirst also provides it. The window itself is short, six seconds, so you spend it at the first opportunity.

Slam

Game iconSlam is a filler for the pauses. After Game iconImproved Slam the ability no longer resets the swing, but it still requires you to stand still and finish casting it. Before you invest rage into Game iconSlam, make sure you will have enough for the upcoming Game iconMortal Strike or an expiring Game iconOverpower window.

Sweeping Strikes

Game iconSweeping Strikes makes your next five melee attacks also hit an additional enemy nearby. The ability requires Game iconBattle Stance and costs 30 rage, so you should use it when two targets will actually stay close together, not just because the cooldown came up. And you should not break crowd control on an enemy with it for the sake of a few extra hits.

Piercing Howl

Piercing Howl is a new ability of the tree. It deals 40% weapon damage, and against giants, dragonkin, and mounted enemies it adds another 80% and dismounts the rider from their mount. It only works in melee, so it is a tool against someone you can actually catch up to, not a way to hold a fleeing target at range.

Baseline

The rest is the warrior's familiar arsenal: Game iconCharge to enter combat and for starting rage, Game iconHamstring for slowing, Game iconExecute for finishing off, Game iconHeroic Strike and Game iconCleave as an outlet for excess rage, Game iconBattle Shout for the group, Game iconThunder Clap and Game iconWhirlwind for multiple targets, Game iconBloodrage and Game iconRetaliation as active abilities, Game iconTaunt for pulling attention. Switching between Game iconBattle Stance, Game iconBerserker Stance, and Game iconDefensive Stance remains part of the rotation, not an emergency measure.

Talents Overview

In Forever you get 51 talent points, and the Arms tree holds 47. The build below takes the tree in full, and the remaining four points go into Game iconCruelty from the Fury tree — this is the most direct addition to critical strike chance, which works for Game iconImpale, Game iconDeep Wounds, and Game iconOverpower windows.

This is not a ready-made leveling build. It is only a sample distribution of abilities for reference.

Weapon Choice

Weapon Master replaced the separate specialization talents for each weapon type and grants a bonus depending on what you have in your hands:

Weapon Choice
Weapon Type
Bonus at Maximum Rank
Axes and polearms+1% critical strike chance
Maces and stavesAttacks ignore 3% of the target's armor
Swords5% chance for an extra attack on the target

The mace option is a noticeable change from Classic, where this role belonged to a talent with a random stun. It is worth taking for physical damage against armored targets, not in the expectation that it will interrupt a spell or lock down an enemy.

At the same time, the weapon-type bonus should not turn into a rule that forces you to give up a noticeably better weapon. You need to compare the whole picture: the item itself, weapon skill support, stats, and your character's racial bonuses.

Weapon damage directly boosts Game iconMortal Strike, Game iconSlam, and Piercing Howl, and Game iconDeep Wounds is calculated directly from the average damage of your melee weapon. Armor penetration helps attacks that depend on armor at all — there is no need to credit it with extra damage from Game iconRend. Critical strike chance has become broader in its influence, because bleeds can now crit too, but a crit on a periodic effect does not create a separate Bloodthirst trigger.
